"That one"

October 7, 2008
Presidential Townhall Debate

McCain: "It was an energy bill on the floor of the Senate, loaded down with goodies, billions for oil companies, and it was sponsored by Bush and Cheney. ... You know who voted for it? You might never know. That one," he said, gesturing toward Obama. "You know who voted against it? Me."

I don't think this was in any way racist. I took it as which senator voted for it - that one. This still does not compare to Beck referring to SHRC as "It." A complete non-entity. Obama was referred to impersonally - not as a non-being. Personally, I found Obama's dismissal of Teresa X when she asked how can we trust you? And Obama said: "Look." And did not call her by name like he had an older white guy and a younger black guy. Said a lot and follows his pattern of dismissiveness towards white women.
