Gaffe of the day: "I thought the ad was terrible."

September 23, 2008

Joe Biden was being interviewed by Katie Couric about the negativity of the campaign and was asked to comment on the video below.

In it, Sen. McCain has a combover, huge glasses and a 70's suit (rivals some HRC pix) and then there are images of a Rubik's Cube, disco ball, record player, big old 80's phone and a really old computer. What audience is he going for? What percentage of McCain voters can use a computer themselves? And what about McCain's injuries that restrict him? He can't even comb his hair because of his improperly treated injuries from his days in captivity.

Ad: He admits he still doesn't know how to use a computer, can't send an e-mail, still doesn't understand the economy, and favors $200 billion in new tax cuts for corporations, but almost nothing for the middle class.

BIDEN answers honestly, like between you and me: "I thought that was terrible."

Asked why it was done, Biden said: "I didn't know we did it, and if I had anything to do with it, we'd have never done it."

And then the obligatory come to Jesus statement by Biden: I was asked about an ad I'd never seen, reacting merely to press reports.

One wonders if they are trying to engineer Biden's exit. It has that surreal feel like when Mr Bill looked like he didn't want Sen Clinton to win. It's a gaffe only as far as the campaign goes - it is a terrible ad.
