Gaffe of the day: Smart kids vote for Obama

September 24, 2008

It seems lipstick has given way to stupidity, literally. First Biden says that people aren't "used to somebody really smart. They're just not used to somebody who's really well educated. They just don't know quite how to handle it. Cause if he's as smart as Barack is he must not be from my neighborhood."

And now, Luke Russert says the smart kids in Virginia are for Obama. How long is it going to take Barry operatives to realize elitism to those bitter gun-totin' Bible quotin' Appalachians and Wal-Mart moms has less to do with homes, money and cars as it does with education. Elitisim as is having someone speak above them - better than them and acting as if they are better than them - in other words uppity, which is now a one-colored word.

This morning on Today, Matt Lauer asked Luke Russert if the University of Virgina campus was representative of Virginia students.
RUSSERT: "You have to remember, the smartest kids in the state go there, so it's leaning a little bit towards Obama."
Yep. One more time we hear that non-Obama voters are stupid and racist which just may explain their bitterness.

And then came the expected mea culpa, mea culpa, mea yes I meant it but didn't mean to say it out loud and get caught maxima culpa.
RUSSERT: Earlier this morning on the Today Show I misspoke and made what is without a doubt, quite simply a dumb comment.
Matt Lauer talked about UVA being a smart school and whether or not it could be considered a microcosm of Virginia at large. I said UVA had a lot of smart kids and so the school was leaning Obama.

I MEANT to say that many of the kids who go to UVA are from affluent, highly educated households who are leaning Obama and hence their kids lean Obama. Plenty of smart college kids will vote for John McCain from UVA, and plenty of smart kids go to Virginia Tech or George Mason and they, too, could end up being big Obama voters.

Today was one of my first lessons in the perils of live television...lesson learned.
But for once there was sincerity. Any kid whose dad loved him that much and that openly deserves a few breaks. You know he doesn't want to let dad down in his own arena.
