Curiosity: Dog envy

December 8, 2008

Interesting little story courtesy of Jennifer Viegas from Born Animal: dogs feel envy. Friederike Range of the University of Vienna did a very simple study of side-by-side dogs. Started as simple response - reward. Dog put out its paw = treat. Twist: sometimes the dog who put out its paw wasn't rewarded and the other dog given the treat. Reaction: dog snubbed refused to respond to experimenter and looked the other way. Check out the sequence of pictures. Same thing with a set of siblings except the snubbed child would probably cross their arms, stomp their foot and pout.

Also check out the next story. Organisms have orgasms in your nose....wash your hands first...Actually she has a lot of cute short stories worth the read.
