All Santa wants for Christmas: H1N1 vaccine

November 20, 2009

Updated H1N1 posts/symptoms/vaccine

Not sure what the reasoning is. One of the Santas will be in close contact with 20-30 thousand children over a period of 4 weeks. It’s not so much for Santa’s protection as it is to hopefully prevent him from spread it. And what are those kids going to do when there’s no Santa?

H1N1: 300 doses of vaccine reach Gitmo

November 10, 2009

Updated H1N1 posts/symptoms/vaccine

Source: AP

Pentagon: 300 doses of H1N1 vaccine have arrived at Guantanamo Bay. But it’s still not enough to cover all the troops and healthcare workers stationed there. It’s wrong. Troops and troop support should be a priority.

Also, “some” civilians who work at the Pentagon received an H1N1 vaccine yesterday. Didn’t state whether or not they were considered high risk.

What happened to “Energy Secretary Chu’s lead security detail”?

May 8, 2009

So what happened to the “lead security detail for Energy Secretary Chu” whi was infected with the flu?

Did he or didn’t he ever test positive? His wife and children? His nephew? His coworker?

Will his negative result (tested too late) not count him as a flu victim/carrier? How else did his family pick it up? How did he pick it up?

Last time I heard about it was at the press briefing. He was sent home on a commercial flight fully contagious. No word if he took precautions. It was early on so I doubt it.

Q Robert, any update on the advance staffer? The testing that you said he was undergoing yesterday? And the flight that he took back from Mexico City –

MR. GIBBS: I have to check onI did not check on the flight. As I mentioned yesterday, that individual is back at work, having been cleared. I have not heard updates from Mr. Brennan on those individual tests. I don’t believe — and I’ll double-check this — I believe his testing has always come back negative, because, as I said yesterday, that virus had sort of run its course. And I would just repeat that all four have recovered and are doing well.

Q And nothing on the passengers that were on those flights?

MR. GIBBS: Not that I have, no.

Energy Security Detail employee: Flu timeline

May 1, 2009

Here is the timeline of the lead security detail for Energy Secretary Chu. Good to know that he and his family all survived and that he is back at work. Compiled form WH press briefing.

Case Zero: April 2nd, 5 y/o Mexican boy, LaGloria, remote mountain town, pig farms, population 3K, survived

ROBERT GIBBS
APRIL 30TH

Unknown man - I hope he remains so.

13th Arrived in Mexico City - [Had to be infected right away. Who? Where?]

16th Began feeling ill

17th Fever

18th Returned to US via commercial flight - in the infectious state [How many got ill?]

19th Spread it to his nephew [Ever tested? Did he pass it along?]

20 - 21st Went to Dept of Energy - co-worker in car developed symptoms [Tested negative - when? How many times?]

20 - 21st Wife and young son developed symptoms [Right on 3-day incubation. How young? Bothe healthy?]

24th - Went family MD - no testing, no medication [Why? Unknown what if any symptoms still existed.]

25th - Him, his wife and young son went to urgent care, rapid flu tests - NEGATIVE

28th - Wife and daughter tested POSITIVE for Influenza A subtype unknown (this flu is A subtype H1N1)

28th - He tested NEGATIVE - 2 weeks past exposure.

I'm guessing they only tested for the antigen (acute exposure) not the antibody (developed in response to the antigen - responsible for recovery).

There are also false negatives. Person in car?

And the test result is only as good as the person collecting the specimen, the handling and testing.

What is omitted is the number of other people it vectored to.

How many else were exposed on the plane in the doctor's office and through coincidental contact?

Exiled VP Biden would be interested in knowing how many people on the commercial flight were exposed and subsequently infected.

Or ny plane's air system has tested positive for the virus.

And unless this man is a sloppy rude person, coughing, and sneezing into people's faces [no way] - it reveals just how infectious the virus is.

One man at minimum infected 4 (probably 5) people.

April 27, 2009

Statement from Ricardo Alday, Spokesman for the Mexican Embassy to the United States of America:

Mr. Felipe Solís, Director of Mexico’s National Anthropology Museum died on April 23rd, a week after he welcomed Presidents Obama and Calderón at the Museum. He died of complications of a preexisting condition and not of swine flu.

Joe Bidengaffer: “I wouldn’t go anywhere in confined places now”

April 30, 2009

VP Joe Biden is back and it’s for the same thing as always: his mouth. On the Today Show, Matt Lauer asked whether he would advise his own family against flying to Mexico and Biden answered as expected:

matrixxx123456789

BIDEN: I would tell members of my family — and I have —I wouldn’t go anywhere in confined places now. It’s not just going into Mexico. If you’re any place in a confined aircraft, and one person sneezes, it goes all the way through the aircraft. That’s me. I would not be at this point - if they had another way of transportation - suggesting they ride the subway.

109 cases 11 states. More states reported. Patient Zero found in Mexico - 5 y/o boy alive and well.

Here are the responses to Biden’s statements.

Within 2 hours they had a statement out from the VP’s office about Biden’s comment. Compare that to the 6 hours for Gibbs to say he knew nothing about the dive bombing of NYC by Air Force One. 7 hours for Louis Caldera to release an apology and over 24 hours for barry to say 24 words with not a word addressed to the traumatized New Yorkers/Jerseyans.

This is conclusive proof they knew exactly what was going on with the “mission” and stalled for as long as they could to gauge the fallout. They were saved by Arlen Specter and the H1N1 flu.

BIDEN SPOKESWOMAN:

On the Today Show this morning, the Vice President was asked what he would tell a family member. That advice he’s giving family members is the same advice the administration is giving to all Americans.

They should avoid all unnecessary air travel to and from Mexico. If they are sick they should avoid airplanes and other confined spaces.

Acting head of the CDC, DR RICHARD BESSER:

There’s no one action that’s going to stop this, there’s no silver bullet.

CDC’s DR ANNE SHUCHAT:

This is a time when we don’t want the worried well flooding the emergency rooms. At no time in our nation’s history have we been more prepared to face this kind of challenge.

If you’re ill, you shouldn’t get on an airplane or any public transport to travel. If you’re sick, stay home. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve said that this week.

Homeland Security Director: JANET NAPOLITANO:

If they’re feeling sick they should stay off public transit or confined spaces because that indeed is the advice we have been given.

JAMES MAY, president of the Air Transport Association, which represents airlines, sent Biden a letter expressing “extreme disappointment at your suggestion that people should avoid air travel.”

American Airlines spokesman TIM SMITH:

To suggest that people not fly at this stage of things is a broad brush stroke bordering on fearmongering.
