Matt Lauer talks with Michael Phelps. Why hasn't anyone come forward to admit they took the picture? At the very least two people know who it is.

LAUER: How long before we all saw that picture were you aware of its existence?

PHELPS: Not long. Probably maybe one or two days.

LAUER: But when you first saw the picture, when you first laid eyes on it, and realized what it was a picture of, did you start to think how damaging this could be to you personally and your career?

PHELPS: The contract side of things, yeah, I was disappointed. But, you know, I think the biggest thing is — is who I hurt the most.

LAUER: But you had just come off this remarkable achievement that you had worked your entire swimming career for, and did it cross your mind where you thought, that that image of me on the cover of Sports Illustrated with the all those 8 gold medals across my neck is now gonna be the secomd thing people think about. This image of me is what's going to be is going to be in all the papers for the foreseeable future?

PHELPS: I have no control over that.

LAUER: Did you personally, Michael, attempt to make sure the news of the world did not publish that photo.

PHELPS: Personally, no.

LAUER: Did your representatives, that you were aware of?

PHELPS: I don't think so.

LAUER: Take me back, if you will, to the party in South Carolina. Who were these people you were with? What was going on that night?

PHELPS: I mean, we were just celebrating, honestly. It was just a small group and we were just sitting around and celebrating.

LAUER: I have to ask you: Were you smoking pot?

PHELPS laughs: It was a bad mistake. I mean, we all know what, you know, what you and I are talking about. It’s a stupid mistake. You know, bad judgment.

Lauer reads the statement Phelps put out and then talks about 2004 when Phelps got his DUI. Of course he has to show the footage and Lauer keeps stressing how he's known Phelps over years.

LAUER: How do you look at your fans now and say, I said it the first time, I'm saying it again, but this time I really mean it.

PHELPS: I'll be the first to admit that I've made a lot of mistakes in my life - in the pool and out of the pool - I've never made the same mistake twice.

LAUER: You don't consider these two things to be the same mistake?

PHELPS: In my eyes no. I think they're both stupid and immature mistakes. For me, I feel my duty is to try to help other people not make this mistake....I should have been smarter.

And mom?

PHELPS: Didn't scream. Clearly showed she was upset. She wasn't reprimanding me.

Brace ourselves for our heroes to disappoint us. Then he mentions aroid. Absolutely no comparison. One used a drug to cheat and win his award and one took a hit of a decidely non performance enhancing drug. Both send completely different messages.

PHELPS: I've come to realize that people want to bring you up, but more people want to bring you down. And that's how our public is. That's definitely something to keep in mind and keep close to heart.

Talks about going to London in 2012.

PHELPS: I'm happy. I'm happy being back in the water. I'm comfortable again.

What about the kids looking up to him?

PHELPS: I want to say that if you do make a bad judgment or if you do make a mistake - make sure you're repsonisble for it. Because that's how you're going to change and that's how you're going to learn.

Michael Phelps is a winner. Period.

The loser who tool that photo needs to be given justice. If sheriff lott is going to prosecute the kids who were arrested in regards to the incident, whoever took the picture is going to have to be involved. Because without that photo - there would not have been an investigation and subsequent arrest. Hope they saved a little money for their defense fund - in and out of court.

Already, Michael Phelps has made good on his apology. Kellogg's donated 3000 boxes of cereal already printed with Phelps' image to a food bank in San Francisco. 3000 boxes gone in 2 weeks. I hope a few of the needy recipients sold the unopened box to a collector so they could get more food.

Cops in South Carolina are conducting a search for a man convicted of sexually abusing his daughter, then turning her into his partner in crime.

Elby Hars' trouble with the law started back in 1982. He was convicted of sexually abusing his daughter, Terri Hars. But even prison bars and handcuffs couldn't keep Hars from getting to his victim. After Elby Hars was released, he reunited with his daughter.

Cops: Abused Girl Finds Other Victims For Her Dad

This time around, police say Hars didn't make his daughter the primary victim. Instead, authorities say the father and daughter teamed up to become partners in crime. Police say Terri Hars became an accomplice by going out and finding young girls for her dad to abuse.

But in February 2000, a 13-year-old girl told police Hars was abusing her. Authorities slapped the ex-con with his second round of sex abuse charges. But that's not all -- Terri Hars faced her own set of charges. She eventually turned herself in, and on December 14 2004, she was convicted of charges including three counts of criminal sexual conduct with a minor. She's now doing time in a South Carolina prison.

But Terri's dad didn't follow in her footsteps: he decided to remain on the run, and John Walsh has added him to his Dirty Dozen list -- the notorious group of fugitives he wants to see taken off the streets the most.

So, Sheriff Lott, what about this America's Most Wanted sexual predator from your jurisdiction?

Did you need a break from reading about his depraved acts? About how he repeatedly raped his daughter and then enlisted her to find him more victims when she got too old for him?

Why was he let out to do it all over again?

Whereas Micheal Phelps admitted to his mistake - these crimes were not admitted to until those guilty were forced to admit to them because they were seeking top positions in the United States government. Positions they were appointed to by the President of the United States who claims to have "superior judgment" as his basis to be president.

Apppointed by a man claiming transparency, who has fought and is still fighting the release of his medical, school and birth records.

Appointed by a man who has said on multiple occasions that no lobbyists will work for him and then promptly made exceptions. Not to mention David Axelrod, who was working as a lobbyist while he was running barry's campaign.

Appointed by a man who has admitted - the President of the United States - to not only smoking marijuana but to also using cocaine on multiple occasions.

words don't matter?

Clearly they do not. And he has no actions to judge related to his words.

• Appointed to Secretary of the Treasury, ergo head of the IRS.
• Ex head of the New York Federal Reserve Bank - while Madoff was making off.

• Initially blamed it on Turbo Tax - financial wizard??
• Signed a document saying he was aware of the problem.
• Did not rectify his taxes even after he was made aware.
• Did not pay taxes while working for the International Monetary Fund.
• Did not rectify his taxes while he was working at NY Federal Reserve Bank
• Did not rectify his taxes even after he was audited.
• Did not rectify his taxes until after he was appointed.

• Ex US Senator, IL Senator and lawyer (not credentialed at present).
• Admitted to using cocaine and smoking marijuana - most likely via a bong.

• Although responsible for her - he allegedly lost track of her.
• Allowed his illegal alien auntie to go to his inauguration.
• Allowed her to not be taken into custody.

BARRY: If she is violating laws those laws have to be obeyed. We're a nation of laws. Obviously that doesn't lessen my concern for her, I haven't been able to be in touch with her. But, it, uh, I'm a strong believer you have to obey the law. WHO?

Take 3: Tom made a mistake, which he has openly acknowledged. He has not excused it, nor do I. But that mistake, and this decision, cannot diminish the many contributions Tom has made to this country, from his years in the military to his decades of public service. Now we must move forward, with our plan to lift this economy and put people back to work.

Yes. This again. I know I haven't been able to post much in the last couple of days on barry because this has me so pist off. Who is the scumbag who took that picture? If they wanted press and notoriety then why aren't they stepping up and saying they did it? And the British tabloid deserves to go out of business and the editor who made the decisions should go to prison for selling their soul. What a wonderful way to make a living.

All you other cowards who know - why aren't you saying anything?

Scumbag, are you happy about what you did? Are you proud of yourself as an American - or are you one?

Do you see what your selfish actions have done?

How bad were you feeling about yourself that you had to do it in the first place?

Did you get what you wanted?

Will your children be proud of what you did? Your mother? Your brother? Your sister?

Clearly you are not proud of your actions or you would be standing proudly taking questions at a press conference. I hope you obtained that photo illegally and I hope you rot in hell.

Did you ever once, just once, think of what you were doing?

Did you ever have a thought, just one thought, of what would happen to Micheal Phelps' mother?

Do you have a mother?

Would you want this to happen to her?

If you are so proud, come forth and tell your mother from a press conference how proud she should be of your actions.

If you are so proud, come forth and tell us why you were in the room in the first place and then tell us you did not have a hit.

Is that why you are hiding?

Are you waiting till the TCH clears your system?

If what Phelps' did was so criminal that you felt the entire world needed to know - then come forward and take a urine test. Give us a sample of your hair for testing. Stand up and tell us that you have never taken a hit off a bong.

Is that why you are hiding?

Then, tell us how you would feel after working your entire life to achieve athletic excellence only to have some scumbag with absolutely no morals - yes, no morals - sell a photo that could ruin your life and ruin the futures of kids you were going to help.

Did you think of that scumbag?

That there will be kids now who won't be able to go to a safe place to swim because the funding was taken away by your selfish actions?

What have you gotten out of this?

How much money did you sell your soul for?

Did you even have a soul?

Does this really and truly make you happy?

Are you proud of what you've done and what has happened to someone who worked so hard to get there?

Are you a loser? Did you lose to Phelps?

I am so angry at you and even more so at the righteous people who say he should have known better and the absolute crazies who say it is a "pattern of behavior" after the Olympics.

Pattern of behavior? How many people have a pattern of behavior and dedication their entire lives only to have it taken away by a scumbag whose heroic act took one second?

SHOULD THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES HAVE KNOWN BETTER?
