Already, Michael Phelps has made good on his apology. Kellogg's donated 3000 boxes of cereal already printed with Phelps' image to a food bank in San Francisco. 3000 boxes gone in 2 weeks. I hope a few of the needy recipients sold the unopened box to a collector so they could get more food.

PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES: I inhaled…frequently. That was the point.
Does anyone deserve this? A single bing hit? Did he snort cocaine like the President of the United States? Here are Micheal Phelps' own words. I think the picture says it all. It is so wrong. Just wrong. I truly wish I could find that person.
Yeah, there are still goals that I have in the pool, 100 percent. But I'm not going to let anything stand in my way. If I decide to walk away, I'll decide to walk away on my own terms. If it's now, if it's four years, who knows. But it is something I need to think about and decide what I want to do.

This was stupid, and I know this won't happen again. It's obviously bad judgment, and it's something I'm not proud of at all.
I will say that with the mistakes that I've made in my life, I've learned from them. Every one of them. And I've become a better person.
That's what I plan to do from here. It's definitely not what I wanted, and it's clearly not what my mom wanted.
And what was the scumbag thinking? Did they consider his mother at all? I'm starting to wonder if it was a female. Why would anyone do this? Why haven't they been outed? I just can't get my head around it. And this is what has been happening to Phelps - all because of their selfishness and greed.
I've been waking up to guys yelling into megaphones outside my window at 7 o'clock in the morning. I've been through just about everything you can go through. I've had paparazzi people following me from my house to my mom's house. People knocking on the door. It's crazy.
Knocking on his door and bothering his mother. At least he can find sanctuary in the pool. But how much of it is desire to get in the pool and how much a desire to get away from the press?
It makes me happy. It's a part of me I've always had, and I've always been happy doing it. I like getting up in the morning and having something to do. On Monday we get back to two-a-day [practices], and I'm looking forward to that. I feel more comfortable here. This is my home.
It's good to know his foundation is still going. I hope whoever funds it realizes that the kids will look up to him even more. Yes. The best athlete in the cosmos makes a mistake, owns up to it, says he's sorry, takes his punishment and moves on. What better role model is that? What athlete has done that? And a mother and son cannot be any closer.
I think this is like the DUI, in that it's something I can talk more about and make sure that nobody makes the same mistakes I made. What I've gone through in the last week, no one wants to go through.
I sure hope that's all the scumbags do. Are people this jealous or hateful or greedy or what? An autograph he didn't sign? Why isn't anyone asking what the photographer was doing in the room. If they saw a "crime" being committed aren't they obligated to call the police? I just cannot understand this.
There are always people you can't trust. During the whole thing, I've really been able to see who my friends are, who my family are, and who really loves and supports me. They've stood by my side, from the countless text messages, phone messages, e-mails, those are your friends. All those people who are around during the good times? Those aren't your friends.

And now comes the professional penalties - as if the public shaming and blogging wasn't enough. Don't stop hounding him when he's up and won't leave him alone when someone brings him down. Source: CNN.
USA Swimming: withdrawing financial support for Phelps and barring him from competition for three months.
This is not a situation where any anti-doping rule was violated, but we decided to send a strong message to Michael because he disappointed so many people, particularly the hundreds of thousands of USA Swimming-member kids who look up to him as a role model and a hero.
Michael has voluntarily accepted this reprimand and has committed to earn back our trust.
Kellogg's is not going to renew his contract. It was up at the end of February so it makes you wonder if it was a convenient way not to have to pay him more money. Kellogg is worked with the Olympic Team but did not renew their sponsorship in December. Maybe it was a Kellogg employee.
Spokeswoman Susanne Norwitz: Michael's most recent behavior is not consistent with the image of Kellogg.
The U.S. Olympic Committee:
Michael has acknowledged that he made a mistake and apologized for his actions. We are confident that, going forward, Michael will consistently set the kind of example we all expect from a great Olympic champion.

Rant alert
Yes. This again. I know I haven't been able to post much in the last couple of days on barry because this has me so pist off. Who is the scumbag who took that picture? If they wanted press and notoriety then why aren't they stepping up and saying they did it? And the British tabloid deserves to go out of business and the editor who made the decisions should go to prison for selling their soul. What a wonderful way to make a living.
All you other cowards who know - why aren't you saying anything?
Scumbag, are you happy about what you did? Are you proud of yourself as an American - or are you one?
Do you see what your selfish actions have done?
How bad were you feeling about yourself that you had to do it in the first place?
Did you get what you wanted?
Will your children be proud of what you did? Your mother? Your brother? Your sister?
Clearly you are not proud of your actions or you would be standing proudly taking questions at a press conference. I hope you obtained that photo illegally and I hope you rot in hell.
Did you ever once, just once, think of what you were doing?
Did you ever have a thought, just one thought, of what would happen to Micheal Phelps' mother?

Would you want this to happen to her?
If you are so proud, come forth and tell your mother from a press conference how proud she should be of your actions.

If what Phelps' did was so criminal that you felt the entire world needed to know - then come forward and take a urine test. Give us a sample of your hair for testing. Stand up and tell us that you have never taken a hit off a bong.

Then, tell us how you would feel after working your entire life to achieve athletic excellence only to have some scumbag with absolutely no morals - yes, no morals - sell a photo that could ruin your life and ruin the futures of kids you were going to help.

That there will be kids now who won't be able to go to a safe place to swim because the funding was taken away by your selfish actions?
What have you gotten out of this?
How much money did you sell your soul for?

I am so angry at you and even more so at the righteous people who say he should have known better and the absolute crazies who say it is a "pattern of behavior" after the Olympics.
Pattern of behavior? How many people have a pattern of behavior and dedication their entire lives only to have it taken away by a scumbag whose heroic act took one second?
