Post Chavez handshake press conference

April 24, 2009

barry’s post-summit solo press conference. barry thinks he did nothing wrong and is certain the American People won’t either. His naivete is stunning. How soon before Iran wants their photo op? And North Korea and Syria….And then he says he doesn’t worry about the politics when that is all he does. Listen to the video and you can hear it in his voice. He sounds like a kid who dropped his ice cream cone on the sidewalk after his mom warned him not to mess around. I feel sorry for him. Reality is setting in and it’s 100 days or so in.

MiddleEastNews

BARRY: I think it was a nice gesture to give me a book. I’m a reader.

He seems to have forgotten the meaning behind it. [see link]

BARRY: You’re right. We had this debate throughout the campaign. I mean the whole notion was that somehow if we showed courtesy or opened up dialogue with governments that had previously been hostile to us that that somehow would be a sign of weakness. And the American people didn’t buy it. And there’s a reason they didn’t buy it — cause it didn’t make sense.

He’s angry here. He seems to have forgotten that he backed off the no preconditions as the polls dictated and then he went ahead and did just what he said he’d do the first time he was asked.[link: barry's new rogue leader foursome]

Their little unmonitored chat was completely inappropriate. Even if it was innocuous - it didn’t look right to other leaders. I can only imagine how Colombia felt, especially after the trade deal was nixed. And who did that translator belong to? The way she was looking at the Venezuela TV camera it had to be Chavez’s.

It’s one thing to have a polite respectful greeting between to heads of states and another to have a good old boy open mouth smile, prolonged hand touching and mutual fawning for the cameras in plain view of the other leaders. They may not feel personally snubbed but their people will wonder why they weren’t “important enough” to get a private chat.

He just doesn’t get that there are rules he must play by. Rules he is expected to play by. That’s why they exist.

And the press is partially to blame for that. He didn’t have to play by any rules during the primaries or general election — everything he did was golden. Now he’s realizing he’s in deep water without a lifeguard. The press should have gone after him more after the first trip and perhaps this would not have happened. Instead they labeled it a success!! Bow and all.

What’s Biden able to tell him compared with what Secretary Clinton would be able to tell him?

Yes, he let his pride take precedence over the American People when he refused to ask Clinton to be VP. Time will bear that out. He won the nomination because of his “superior judgment” on Iraq and now he’s proven he couldn’t even be Secretary of State and would qualify for few if any cabinet positions.

Here he focuses on whether Venezuela is a threat to the US militarily. We’ve heard this before on the stump:

May 18, 2008: Iran, Cuba and Venezuela- these countries are tiny compared to the Soviet Union. They don’t pose a serious threat to us.

May 19, 2008: Let me be absolutely clear: Iran is a grave threat.

But the economic and diplomatic threats are real.

BARRY: You take a country like Venezuela - I have great differences with Hugo Chavez on matters of economic policy and on matters of foreign policy. His rhetoric directed at the United States has been inflammatory. There have been instances in which we’ve seen Venezuela interfere with some of the countries that surround Venezuela in ways that I think are of some concern.

On the other hand, Venezuela is a country whose defense budget is probably 1/600th of the US. They own Citgo. [laughs dimissively] It’s unlikely that as a consequence of me shaking hands or having a polite conversation [it didn't look the least bit polite] with Mr. Chavez that we are endangering the strategic interests of the United States.

I don’t think anyone can find any evidence that that would do so. [derisive] Even in this imaginative crowd.

[He does the Bill Clinton hand motion]

I think you’d be hard pressed to paint a scenario in which US interests would be damaged as a consequence of us having a more constructive relationship with Venezuela.

That’s provided that what he just did leads to a more constructive relationship. He has no way of knowing that. Just like Sen Clinton pointed out in that original debate. And if it improves one relationship and damages 10 others that then severely impact the US economy?

I can’t quite understand his kumbayaism. I’m beginning to wonder if he really really believes that just by talking to him they will see the light like he said on the stump:

Jan 7, 2008: A light will shine through that window, a beam of light will come down upon you, you will experience an epiphany … and you will suddenly realize that you must go to the polls and vote for Barack!”

He must really believe. It seems very sad.

BARRY: So, if the question Dan is, how is this going to play politically, I don’t know.

Upset. Bummed out. And then comes the bold-faced lie - the thing he is 100% concerned with because it is how he operates. Politically expedience.

One of the benefits of my campaign and how I’ve been trying to operate as president is I don’t worry about the politics. I try to figure out what’s right in American interests and on this one I think I’m right.

That’s not what his face says. His face says I blew it…again. Hence his fleeing to Iowa to stock up on adoration.

I haven’t been watching anything so I don’t know how it played out. I just hope there are no more summits for a few months until he reads the playbook or uploads the presidential manual to his ipod.

barry's not so genial private chat with Chavez

April 24, 2009

This is an interesting video clip provided by Venezuelan TV via NewsPoliticsNews.

We’ve seen the three faces of barry. The non-presidential open mouthed smile and shaking of hands, the awkward reaction to Chavez’s gift of a book and now this. The mood and tone is very different here. I found the translator looking at the camera very interesting. It was a look like are you hearing this.

Throughout it barry does the talking and his body language is interesting.

He uses his height to his advantage and makes a point of looking down. He also keeps his hads between them in a protective boxer type movement. They are standing very close together, barry’s hands in Chavez’s space and it ca’t be explained by trying to hear each other since there is a translator present. Chavez speaks more English than he lets on.

Hugo Chavez gives barry a book and gets a photo op

April 24, 2009

Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez although having already shook barry’s hand waits until the meeting is to begin and goes over and gives barry a copy of “Open Veins of Latin America: Five Centuries of the Pillage of a Continent” by Uruguayan author Eduardo Galeano.

Originally published in Spanish (1971) it is an indictment on the 5oo years of colonization of Latin America by Anglos - US and Europe. Not exactly a present, considering the topic and the fact that Chavez said of barry’s comments about him “exporting terrorism”:

he’s a “poor ignoramus in need or reading and studying to understand reality.” [see link below]

It came off as a goofy jock running over to the class nerd at the last minute to get him to take his test.

loi2101

At first Chavez bends over to speak but barry stands - he has he height advantage. barry awkwardly accepts the book, takes a picture and tries to rip his hand away. You can see the pressure of the grip as well as the embarrassment and disgust in barry’s face.

His face changes once again when they stand together and have a private little meeting with a female translator present filmed by Venezuelan TV. [see link below]

barry shakes Hugo Chavez’s and (Daniel Ortega’s) hands

April 17, 2009

barry gets up close and personal with Dictator and avowed hater of America and American presidents, Hugo Chavez. barry found nothing wrong with it - nothing wrong with anything he did, Surprise.

Still photos and photos of other participants. Check out the guy with the missing pinkie. And note how Secretary Hillary Clinton is greeting the woman properly.

barry shaking hands with Hugo Chávez, Venezuela and Daniel Ortega, Nicaragua before the opening of the 5th Summit of the Americas in Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago.

CHAVEZ: With this hand, eight years ago, I greeted Bush. I want to be your friend.

Chavez was referring to the fact that it greeted Bush during the 3rd Summit of the Americas held in Quebec, but four years ago, the two leaders met at the Sea of Silver and avoided [each other].

Obama repeated the gesture with the president of Nicaragua, who shook his hand in the same room where all the presidents had a quick meeting before the opening of the dome.

barry's bud, Hugo Chavez, calls Pres Bush "the devil"

April 24, 2009

That’a right. barry’s new book club buddy called his immediate predecessor, George Bush, the President of the United States, the Devil.

No matter your politics, Bush represented The American People - for better or worse - just like barry - and it was wrong. He didn’t get the job by himself - folks had to vote him in. Twice.

Most egregious - it took place at the United Nations - the general Assembly clapped and not a single foreign ambassador said anything. That is beyond wrong.

barry's new rogue leader foursome

April 24, 2009

A little flashback in case you missed it the first time around. barry will sit down without preconditions…thinks Secretary Clinton is qualified only for tea parties.

[Warning: gross pix all the way at the bottom]

July 7, 2007
CNN/You Tube South Carolina Democratic Debate

STEPHEN SORTA:

Would you be willing to meet separately, without preconditions, during the first year of your administration, in Washington or anywhere else, with the leaders of Iran, Syria [He could stay at Tony Rezko's house],Venezuela, Cuba and North Korea in order to bridge the gap that divides our country?

BARRY: I would!

SORTA:

I’d be interested to hear what, uh, (affected tone) “Hillary” has to say to that question.

SENATOR CLINTON:

Well, I will NOT promise to meet with these leaders of these countries during my first year.

I will promise a very vigorous diplomatic effort. Because I think that it IS not that you promise a meeting at that high a level before you know what the intentions are.

I don’t want to be used for propaganda purposes.

I don’t want to make a situation even worse.

But I certainly agree that we need to get back to diplomacy, which has been turned into a bad word in this administration and I will pursue very vigorous diplomacy and I will a lot of high level presidential envoys to test the waters, to feel the way.

But, certainly, we’re not going to have our president meet with Fidel Castro and Hugo Chavez and the president of North Korea, Iran and Syria until we know better what the way forward would be.

=================================

December 2007

barry in all of his arrogance:

It’s that experience, that understanding, not just of what world leaders I went and talked to in the ambassadors house I had tea with, but understanding the lives of the people like my grandmother who lives in a tiny hut in Africa.

What in the hell does he know about small villages in Africa? Was he born in a hut now? He didn’t even meet her until after his father died and he went back once courtesy of taxpayers. He sponsored his illegal alien auntie who has been living on taxpayer money and said he lost track of her. And he allows his brother George to literally live in a hut with no financial support.

How did you people buy this crap?

Who has been on more continents? In more countries? More palaces? More ambassador’s tea parties? More regular homes? And yes more huts?

Hint: not barry.

And who answered the question correctly.

No…propaganda…not the first year…test the waters…not make the situation worse.

And whose picture right now is being used as propaganda?

The now President of the United States, the person elected on his fairy tale of “superior judgment” for “getting it right from the beginning” on Iraq. He said he would meet and he did. He promptly screwed up on his first two out of two tries - not just in his first year - in his first 100 days. And he didn’t sit down - he bowed and he stood and hammed it up for the cameras. Even if we were allies he was acting like a frat boy.

He should have listened to someone who has been to at least 50 more countries and 2 more continents than him, including South America and Venezuela. Or maybe he should have taken a few years to sip some tea.

Secretary Clinton would never have made such foolish mistakes as rubbing the Queen’s back, bowing to anybody, let alone the man whose country produced 15/19 9-11 murderers and thinks it’s ok for 8 y/o girls to marry 47 y/o men. And she most definitely would not have been being caught laughing and smiling with Hugo Chavez - a man who called our previous president “the devil”.

And didn’t barry realize why he gave him that book? Did he forget Chavez called him an “ignoramus” who needs to “read and study to understand reality”?

He allowed himself to be taken off guard.

Secretary Clinton would have anticipated it and been able to extricate herself with grace. barry did neither. He is an infant when it comes to foreign relations. He doesn’t even know the State Department protocols. And he is showing he knows nothing about the kumbaya diplomacy he naively rambles on about.

All he knows is sycophantic adoration. And that’s all he wants. To be adored for having done absolutely nothing but con The American People.

If these pix upset you instead of chuckle - ask yourself why. And then ask barry.

The true meaning behind Chavez's "gift" of a book

April 24, 2009

The true meaning behind the book goes back to January. Chavez called barry an "ignoramus" because he felt barry's comment about the FARC was ignorant and that perhaps he should read a little to understand reality. Voila the book. And you know barry had to remember being called an ignoramus and yet he smiled and shook hands like old pals. And the reason is - he was unable to extricarte himself like a veteran player on the international scene would have known how to do. Just like a veteran would not have bowed to a beast, who thinks it's ok for innocent little girls to have their genitals mutilated.

JAN 12th President elect barry goes on Spanish language Univision TV (seen in Venezuela) and said Chávez had "been a force that has interrupted progress in the region."

We need to be firm when we see this news, that Venezuela is exporting terrorist activities or supporting malicious entities like the FARC. This creates problems that are not acceptable.

JAN 18th Washington Post JUAN FORERO wrote about a Chavez Venezuelan TV interview in which he said barry had "the same stench" as President Bush. [See video]

CHAVEZ: [barry] said I'm an obstacle for progress in Latin America. Therefore, it must be removed, this obstacle, right?

There is still time for Obama to correct his views. No one should say that I threw the first stone at Obama. He threw it at me.

JAN 19th FOX:

Chavez, who is trying to consolidate power by getting voters to agree to abolish term limits, a ploy rejected in a previous effort, was quoted saying that if Obama thinks that Chavez is an obstacle to progress then he must be following orders from certain corners of "the empire."

"If he doesn't obey the orders of the empire, they'll kill him," Chavez said, without naming who "they" are.

MARCH 6th, Sodahead, DANIEL CANCEL

CHAVEZ: Now President Obama arrived with some announcements, hopefully, but the capitalist model and its perverse values have failed.

I recommend to Obama -- they're criticizing him because they say he's moving towards socialism -- come Obama, ally with us on the path to socialism, it's the only road.

Imagine a socialist revolution in the U.S. Nothing is impossible.

MARCH 22nd From Reuters. Frank Jack Daniel:

CHAVEZ: [BARRY] goes and accuses me of exporting terrorism: the least I can say is that he's a poor ignoramus; he should read and study a little to understand reality.

Chavez said Obama's comments had made him change his mind about sending a new ambassador to Washington, after he withdrew the previous envoy in a dispute last year with the Bush administration in which he also expelled the U.S. ambassador to Venezuela....

...in September in a dispute over U.S. activities in his ally Bolivia, which also expelled its U.S. ambassador. Ecuador's left-wing President Rafael Correa this year kicked out a mid-ranking U.S. diplomat.

"When I saw Obama saying what he said, I put the decision back in the drawer; let's wait and see," Chavez said on his weekly television show, adding he had wanted to send a new ambassador to improve relations with the United States after the departure of George W. Bush as president.

...My, what ignorance; the real obstacle to development in Latin America has been the empire that [barry] today preside[s] over.

best buds - will go into this in another post

Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez gives a book to President Obama April 18

Look at how Chavez is squeezing the hell out of barry's hand. He's trying to get his hand free and Chavez is enjoying it. Alpha male behavior at it's most primordial level and barry lost big time. Chavez also makes sure he puts the cover of the book towards the camera. Not much better propaganda than that. Might as well have been Mein Kampf or the Communist Manifesto.

barry's naivete clear on both trips

April 20, 2009

barry expected to be lauded and feted like he was in the Arab world and instead they made a mockery of him - and by extension America and all Americans. And it's not clear if he even realized it. He's too convinced world leaders love him. Like Brutus maybe. Time will tell.

Chavez is probably still laughing about how he disrespected somebody who didn't even realize he was being disrespected. Somebody clearly out of his element. Somebody he got immortalized on film laughing and grinning like long lost bong buddies because barry didn't see it coming and didn't know how to get away.

Or did he even want to?

And what was the heated discussion about that was caught on Venezuelan TV?

Chavez the Dictator and outspoken critic of the US gives barry an anti-American book and he takes it, saying he thought it was one of Chavez's. And he doesn't stop there. He allows America to be trashed for 45 minutes while he smiles and enjoys the show. And when he has a chance to rebut - a chance to stand for the nation he represents and stand up for the people he's always talking about but never to - he does his usual...nothing. Not a peep. He lets us be trashed with him in attendance, laughing like he's at Comedy Central.

And even though the whole disgusting charade was caught on video and in print and photos, he was sure he did nothing wrong and answered the press in his how dare you question me I'm the president voice. Ok. Fine. Then start acting like one. Learn the protocol. Swallow your pride and for the good of The American People ask Mr Bill what to do. Or your tea-sipping Secretary of State who can hold her own with world leaders and connect with their oppressed forgotten citizens.

And when asked, his explanation was the same as it has been for the last two years: the American People....the voters...Bush was wrong...

Will someone please tell him that the campaign is over and that it's time to stop pandering to swing states? And then inform him he got the job and he has to start doing it - in his office. And his blaming Bush and feigning outrage over bonuses he had full prior knowledge of isn't going to cut it.

And what fellow Democratic presidential candidate hasn't he trashed? Clinton, yes. Edwards, yes. Richardson, yes. Biden, yes. And now Dodd. Typical barry MO. He doesn't just want to win - he wants to destroy his opponent and will do whatever it takes - starting with the tried and true cry of racism. For a man who gave a politically expedient (what else) speech on race, he surely didn't heed his own words. All three opponents left the race racists - one equal to George Wallace. And that wasn't even enough. He had to trash President Clinton.

How can any of you folks think he is honorable in any fashion?

Chris Dodd has an approval rating in the 30's and may lose his seat because of the bonuses barry pretended not to know about. And how hard did Dodd go after his fellow senator and former first lady to get barry elected? How much credibility did he lose among women voters because of it?

On Morning Joe, John Heilemann said we can't be sure how things work until AFTER THE FIRST TERM of his administration. First it was 100 days, then 6 months, then a year, two years and now at least four. Chrysta Freeland said "right now we're in the Obama listening phase".

What other phases are there?

He is an empty shell. He believes in nothing and changes his views as suits the polls. And the press has allowed him to get away with it - willing accomplices all the way - proud they got their man elected.

What is going to happen when he is finally forced to act?

Who is going to tell him what, how, and when to do it?

And then who is he going to try and blame?

You folks who think he's calm - he's a volcano waiting to erupt. He's done it. Ed Henry, for one. Joe Biden about Justice Roberts, another. There have been some behind closed doors that Howie Fineman has alluded to. Once the press decides to do their job (if they are still able) - we'll see the real barry - which is why they haven't been doing it.

And what exactly has he been doing? He knows that once he acts, he will eventually be held accountable. Something no one has done. So he "listens" and does nothing. How often have you heard his plans the first time out? What hasn't he refined his position on as he learned about it? As he realized it needed to be translated to reality?

And why can't he make the simplest of speeches without a teleprompter?

Because he doesn't know what he is taking about?

His foreign policy is diplomacy because he doesn't know what to do and because it was something President Bush didn't do. He wants to rule the cosmos and thinks kumbayaism will solve everything. His naivete is shocking. Already he was put in his place. Already he embarrassed us on the world stage. On both trips.

And the press thinks both were a smashing success!!

How can they keep lying to themselves?

I guess they have no choice. Once they acknowledge he is nothing but a shell run by political expedience they'll have to admit that they got conned.

And don't expect him to ever admit he was wrong. He still hasn't admitted he was wrong about the Surge because it would ruin the whole "superior judgment" "right from day one" inconsequential politically expedient Iraq fairy tale. A grand fairy tale that paid off. Why people believed it I will never know. When it came to action, when his judgment could actually be assessed, he did nothing. He even refused to go to Afghanistan - the reason why he spoke out in the first place.

And now when he was forced to act on Iraq?

The troops are leaving on essentially President Bush's timetable.

He deceived the voters with his promise and he won the nomination because of it.

Change we can believe in?

Or same old politically expedient barry?
