Updated H1N1 posts/symptoms/vaccine
Not sure if this has happened yet in the US, but in Canada, Alberta government employees will have to swear that they were absent from work due to H1N1.
It was set up to decrease the workload on doctors – the declaration taking the place of a doctor’s note.
If an employee misses 3 consecutive days of work, they will need to appear before a commissioner of oaths and make a declaration that indeed they were sick from H1N1.

Pentagon: 300 doses of H1N1 vaccine have arrived at Guantanamo Bay. But it’s still not enough to cover all the troops and healthcare workers stationed there. It’s wrong. Troops and troop support should be a priority.
Also, “some” civilians who work at the Pentagon received an H1N1 vaccine yesterday. Didn’t state whether or not they were considered high risk.
So what happened to the “lead security detail for Energy Secretary Chu” whi was infected with the flu?
Did he or didn’t he ever test positive? His wife and children? His nephew? His coworker?
Will his negative result (tested too late) not count him as a flu victim/carrier? How else did his family pick it up? How did he pick it up?
Last time I heard about it was at the press briefing. He was sent home on a commercial flight fully contagious. No word if he took precautions. It was early on so I doubt it.
Q Robert, any update on the advance staffer? The testing that you said he was undergoing yesterday? And the flight that he took back from Mexico City –
MR. GIBBS: I have to check on — I did not check on the flight. As I mentioned yesterday, that individual is back at work, having been cleared. I have not heard updates from Mr. Brennan on those individual tests. I don’t believe — and I’ll double-check this — I believe his testing has always come back negative, because, as I said yesterday, that virus had sort of run its course. And I would just repeat that all four have recovered and are doing well.
Q And nothing on the passengers that were on those flights?
MR. GIBBS: Not that I have, no.

Questions still exist as to where and in what host the H1N1 virus might have originated. Whether it spontaneously mutated or was helped along by man. Smithfield Foods’ farms near where “Patient Zero” lives, is still being looked at as the culprit - even though the Mexican authorities say Smithfield is not responsible.
My (non-paranoid) opinion: it is man made and was planted in that area to further destroy the US economy. Smithfield being the largest pork producer in North America. It is about as coincidental as barry’s host coming down with “flu-like symptoms” less than 24 hours after they shook hands. As coincidental as the “preexisting conditions” that were used to justify his precipitous death that had nothing to do with the H1N1 virus. And it’s as coincidental as the most powerful man in the world just happening to be at the epicenter of a never before seen flu outbreak. [Discussed here.]
The question is who is behind it?
“Granjas Carroll” is the hog farm in question. Smithfield Foods owns half and they have been fully compliant with the Mexican Government. They willingly consented to genetic testing of his pigs to see if in fact the virus is linked to them, which won’t be back till next week. The samples were sent to University of Mexico because the government didn’t want them to leave the country.
Why?

C. Larry Pope, CEO of Smithfield Foods is interviewed by MIKE MATHER of KTKR 3 News.
Pope does not think his farms are making anyone sick.
POPE: Of course I don’t. You know what we would not begin to put the public at risk here.
Is irritated by it.
POPE: had it not been called swine flu, I think Smithfield wouldn’t be involved in this discussion at all. We find a little boy in Southern Mexico who gets sick, there happens to be a Smithfield facility close to that, boom, we have the linkage, by some people’s standards.
Does he think his farms are responsible?
POPE: You don’t have to take my word for it. You can take the Mexican authorities. The minister of health has said that. The governor of Veracruz has said that.
Pope says he sent two agriculture consultants from universities to check out his farm.
POPE: Even if that farm is determined to have that, there is still no indication that it went from that farm to that little boy.

It depends on who you ask.
POTUS had traveled to Mexico City aware if the threat of drug cartel violence, having increased the number of border guards prior to his arrival. He traveled aware of the Swine flu outbreak-- the first case identified on the 13th.
Or was he?
WH Press Secretary Robert Gibbs said on the 27th in his daily briefing that no warning was given. See link below.
That doesn't necessarily mean it wasn't already known.
A member of "Energy Secretary Chu's lead security detail" arrived in Mexico City on the 13th, felt ill on the 16th, fever 17th, sent home 18th. And between the 19th-21st, family members and a coworker he rode in a car with fell ill. His wife and daughter eventually tested positive for Influenza A - subtype unknown (to the public) on the 30th.Offending subtype H1N1.
Fortunately all are fine.
So where was he? In what capacity was he working? Who did he meet ? Anybody on the other side got sick? What did he bring with him?
POTUS' Secret Service had to know about this, didn't they?
But what POTUS didn't know was that he would come in close personal contact with a man, who, less than 24 hours later, would suddenly fall ill with "flu-like symptoms", be hospitalized, precipitously decline and die just six days after shaking the hand and taking on a tour of the museum, the most powerful man in the world.
The man was his host that night (the 16th) at the National Museum of Anthropology was the Museum Curator, accomplished Mexican Archeologist Felipe Solis Olguin.
No word on whether Solis was having symptoms that evening -- the paucity of information is English is suspicious in itself. His death was attributed to "pneumonia" complicated by coexisting medical problems, including immunodeficiency.
The Mexico Health Minister denied that Solis' death was related in any way to the swine flu.
Ricardo Alday, Spokesman for the Mexican Embassy to the United States of America:
[Solis] died of complications of a preexisting condition and not of swine flu.
Either way, it doesn't matter at this point.
The incubation period is very short - 3 days - so he would have already shown symptoms. He was sick on the previous trip - G 20 Summit. A vaccine?
What are the odds? It reads like a Ludlum novel. How long before we find out the truth?
What happened to Mr Solis' body?

Cordova Villalobos said that schools would remain closed next week in Mexico City, where the flu has hit hardest.
The health minister dismissed speculation in the Mexican media about US President Barack Obama's possible exposure to the virus when he was in Mexico City ten days ago, just after the flu started breaking out there.
Reforma newspaper had reported that Obama had had contact at a museum with a reknown archeologist, Felipe Solis Olguin, who died of a combination of diabetes and pneumonia shortly afterwards.
Cordova Villalobos clarified the man's cause of death, saying the pneumonia was not related to influenza, but rather to a combination of an unnamed pre-existing condition and a sudden onset of pneumonia that was not related to influenza.

Finally, the Health Secretary, denied that the death of the director of the National Museum of Anthropology and History, Felipe Solis Olguin was caused by swine influenza.
UNNAMED PRESIDENTIAL AIDE: I can tell you that the President doesn't have any symptoms, and his doctors advised that there was no need for him to be tested.
