Vanity Fair’s Wolff: “Gibbs seems to be in total control of the media”

This media lovefest of denial has got to stop. Does any “reporter” or whatever they fancy themselves have integrity? Or even a semblance of a grasp on reality?

Have they always been like this? I only got involved last January and only then because of the obvious barry bias. What I would like to know is if they really believe the crap they write or they’re doing it because they don’t have any choice. Because if they tell the truth at this point the world will see how corrupted and ridiculous they look.

It’s too late. Eighteen months too late.

Here’s Michael Wolff over at Vanity Fair – something I’ve never read. And after reading his words – which made my skin crawl – I won’t ever again. He prattles on with jagged excessive words about what a genius sarcastic “I don’t know – I’ll get back to you” Robert Gibbs is. It made me wonder if he was writing it in the bathroom with only one hand on the keyboard.

I won’t even dissect the article because the tone of the words is too creepy. Here’s just a few quotes.

When did this become news?

It’s been that way since at least March 3, 2008 when the obamerized man-loving press allowed barry to walk away after answering like, 8 questions, already. They were completely corrupted at that point and I argue that Gibbs had nothing to do with it. The press were willingly and knowingly entrenched in a pathological glazed-eye crush of a man they knew nothing and still don’t know anything about.

They chose to become corrupted and have remained so. Polls have proven it and the media has even admitted it – laughing all the way ha-ha-ha.

Folks like Mark Halperin and Tony Blankley, with his dismissive reference to “weird little internet sites”, went on record just to go on record. They did nothing in the heat of the battle. They did nothing when it could have mattered.

What good are their words after the fact?

The national press corps is barrymedia. MSNBC is barry TV. NEWSWEEK is the pro-barry propaganda newsletter. Kos and Huffington Post are his blogging slaves and Factcheck is completely biased – their “factchecks” ridiculously parsed – most notably the “birth certificate” that Gibbs lied about and said was online.

The mainstream media across the board have willingly chosen to embargo anything not probarry and have magnified any possible anything against his opponents/enemies/naysayers to cover up barry gaffes.

Case in point: Joe Biden made a remarkable admission about the young president being tested by a generated crisis and to just hang with them no matter what the polls say. He basically said that barry is going to need help because he’s clueless and that he – Biden – already knew what the crisis was going to be and how they were going to react.

And what does the media chooses to focus on?

The wardrobe.

Mika Mommy Brzezinski declared a “Biden attack-free zone” with Scarborough saying on air that he was going to email around to see if the media was going to run with the Biden story. Dan Rather, who one would think would be incensed, sat quietly and commented that if it was Gov Palin instead of Joe Biden it would be an above the fold story. Goebbels never had it so easy.

Historians are going to wonder what was in the water. The New York Times that Wolff mentions several times has already started admitting they willfully did not report things that could have hurt barry – surprise – like the recent ACORN revelation by Hoyt. His justification was humorous: it wouldn’t have mattered anyway.

It doesn’t matter if was a completely innocuous story. They withheld the information. They made a choice to help a candidate – something the public overwhelming believed they would do and did. They were willingly corrupted. They have lost all credibility – something they can and will never regain.

Their corruption began early on with the story about Sen McCain. And what they did to Senator Clinton was unconscionable. And despite theirs and the rest of the daily, often hourly, barrymedia attacks – Sen Clinton got the same amount of votes. He won 11 in a row and couldn’t close. He never won anything — he was anointed by the just as intentionally corrupted DNC who had put a mechanism in place to favor him.

What if it were Michigan and Florida instead of Nevada and South Carolina?

What if Sen Clinton was the one given votes decided on behind closed doors in a state where her name was never on the battl?. That little transaction forever illegitimized the primaries.

And even after he was anointed he needed Sen Clinton to stump for him. And this man of character intent on Change! and Uniting! Transcending Race! and Reaching Across the Aisle! couldn’t even reach across his own party. He didn’t even have enough integrity (self-confidence) to call off his attack dogs.

He’s never been in it just to win it. Victory means destroying his opponents – with his barrymedia assisting him the whole way. His ego, so massive he couldn’t bear to talk to his democratic predecessor. Still can’t. Says a great deal about his insecurities and gross lack of governing skills.

He did not win this election in any fashion. One-third – 8 million – eligible black voters couldn’t even be bothered to register to vote for “the first black president”. There wasn’t a “massive voter turnout” in the black community. After 8 years of Bush and with barry as the candidate only 2% more black voters turned up at the polls. And the caucuses were won in predominately white states — although Iowa got a boost from a couple of bused in barry voters.

Sen Clinton’s bitter bowling alley babes a’totin’ their guns and a’quotin their Bibles and the feminazis and those racist blue collar workers who would “never vote for a black man” and Hispanics won it for barry. Sen Clinton’s demographics. She turned them around after the convention from 58 – 85% all the while barrymedia attacking her motives and terrorizing her for mentioning the blatantly obvious sexism, gyne envy and misogyny.

How can anyone in the barrymedia think they are in any way ethical? Or for that matter even useful?

They are a complete embarrassment to the “profession” – if one still exists. Pulitzer Prize winner Mo Dowd rips off a blogger and Bob Herbert can’t even recognize the Washngton Monument.

The White House press corps doesn’t bother to ask any questions that Gibbs isn’t ready for. And if perchance they ask something meaningful – like how much did the trip to New York cost – Gibbs has no answer other than uh, uh, uh. His face gets red and forehead starts to sweat like it did when he was lying to the willing to be lied to press about why they were flown to Chicago when barry wasn’t even on the plane.

They let Gibbs get away with: “I don’t know, I’m not sure, I haven’t talked to barry about that, I don’t have my notes with me…let me check and I’ll get back to you”.

Does he?

Read or just scan the transcripts of the press briefings. All you need to do is look at three and you’ll see that day after day the press is made a fool of by Gibbs – not because he has this power or because he knows anything – but because the press allows him to. Gibbs very rarely answers the question and when he gets pressed he reverts to sarcasm, I don’t think The American People…”, sarcasm and frat boy faces. I don’t know what press briefings Wolff is watching but they’re entirely unprofessional. All that’s missing is a kegger, some strippers and strewn pizza crusts.

The headliner:

The Obamas may have the smartest, most finely calibrated press operation in White House history, parceling out scoops (The New York Times), partisan talking points (the Huffington Post), and First Family tidbits (the celebrity mags) to a desperate media. Just don’t ask them to admit it.

It’s not clear who he means by “they”.

Toward the end:

The balance of power has surely shifted—although you won’t get anyone in the White House to say that. Except every day you can read it in press secretary Gibbs’s cockiness and condescension.

And it’s that way because the press is too castrated to say it themselves. And what is the time frame of “has”? It’s been that way almost since the beginning.

And this:

There is too the Obama 30-point advantage—he’s got America eating out of his hand. Gibbs has, at least so far, an easy product to sell. And then there’s the personal insecurity on the part of members of the incredible shrinking press—their days are numbered and they know it.

Yo, Mr Wolffe – barry doesn’t have “America” eating out of his hand. You folks are mesmerized. The folks who are in touch with reality see right through barry and the press is shrinking because “America” knows that they have been corrupted and nothing they write approximates the truth. Why would they pay for fiction when they can find the truth on the internet?

Ok fifteen minutes is enough time wasted.

Time to find out why the “smartest, most finely calibrated press operation in White House history” had to demote the First Lady’s Chief of Staff. I’m sure it’s just Chicago payback for Ms Sher with the help of Valerie Jarrett getting Michelle Obama a job at U of C Medical Center (turning away indigents from the ER so they could make more money) and then getting her a $195,052 raise [$121,910 to $316,962] 2 months after barry was sworn in as senator. I guess since barry couldn’t come through with the $1M earmark for U of C the Mrs had to handle it herself. Just like a former Mayor Daley staffer and daughter of a precinct captain knows how to do.

More righteous ignorance re: barry's birth certificate

They keep coming. The derisive and tired old racist comments about American citizens who want to know the truth about barry. My fellow citizens and I have no interest in preventing barry from being president - that would cause more rioting than the Gaza strip - we just want the propaganda and censorship to stop. We want the truth. The truth we deserve. The truth they should be ferreting out like they did with Gov Palin, Sen McCain - and it goes without saying - Sen Clinton. That's it. The proobamedia has not done their job - which was to vet barry for the American People. Instead, they have put together propaganda and denial worthy of Pravda and Goebbels.

So here's another ignorant of the facts blogger. He is commenting on the challenges to barry's eligibility to be president. He doesn't realize that he is just as 'prejudiced' as those he implies are racists and derogatorily calls "trollers" and "birfers". The lawsuit he refers to has not a chance and, quite frankly, alleging that McCain and barry are ineligible to be POTUS because they are sitting senators is a tad wacko.

Oh, I get it. These two idiots are questioning Obama and McCain, so they can't be racists, right? I mean, if successful, they would totally disqualify Obama from the Presidency, and McCain from...from presidential loserdom.

This entire movement to question Obama's birth smacks of some kind of "ism." As YesToDemocracy.com's Christina Cedeno points out, there has never been any challenge like this made to any other candidate. Why Obama? What is it about him that makes them question the legitimacy of his native birth? Hmmmm.

These "birfers," as they're apparently being called now, don't have even the tiniest fig leaf to hide behind. There's no good reason to have asked about Obama's birth certificate in the first place, let alone to still question it after it has been produced, verified, and certified.

Such energetic outrage! The "ism" is Obamerism. And the lame racist allegation is a bit cliche. barry was elected. He is biracial. Who cares. What matters is his "transparency, integrity and superior judgment" and the absolutely outrageous proclamation in Philly to The American People that he "WILL NEVER LIE TO YOU!"

He was at that very moment...and throughout the campaign...and throughout his mythologized autobiography and...

Why haven't these bloggers asked themselves one simple question: Why does barry continue to refuse to submit his vault copy of his birth certificate?

What does barry have to lose? What is he gaining by not producing it? I understand his resistance during the primary and general election to get folks like Tommy to cry racism! But no longer. There is only one logical reason barry is still refusing -- he has something to hide. What it is may have nothing to do with his "natural born" eligibility argument.

Mr Transparency has also refused to release his full medical and school records. Why are folks still buying this transparency crap? The history he has presented to The American People is largely of his own making. Who knows the truth other than his sister now that his grandmother has passed? And how much has she revealed? Been asked to reveal? Pressed to be reveal?

Tommy mistakenly writes that barry has produced his "birth certificate" and that it has been verified and certified. No, it has not. Had he - Berg's case would not still be ongoing and SCOTUS would not be conferencing to decide its merit. What barry produced was the short form "Certification of Live Birth" which just means that there exists a long form that is the actual birth certificate. No need to go into it all over again. Go look for yourself on the official Hawaiian Department of Health website. Read up on the investigation of the COLB and make up your own mind, while asking yourself why he wouldn't want to put an end to all this? And yes, he and the DNC are having to spend money to defend the lawsuits.

And the comment about why barry? Simple - Because he refuses to submit it.

Obama's great-great-great grandmother's grave found

According to STEVICK's article, on October 14th, Obama's great-great-great grandmother, Rachel Wolfley's grave marker was uncovered in Evergreen Cemetery in Everett, Washington. She was born and grew up in Ohio and then lived in Ohio and Kansas as a married woman. Her husband, Robert Wolfley, was a farmer and served in the Civil War.

"Military records show that Robert Wolfley served with Company A in the 145th Ohio National Guard infantry near the end of the war. It was a 100-day regiment formed to protect Washington, D.C., during the major campaigns that Gen. Ulysses S. Grant led into Virginia in the spring of 1864, Shipman said. He received a Civil War pension, which went to his wife after he died in 1895."

He was buried in Olathe, Kansas and she presumably moved from Kansas to live with her daughter, Addie "Anna" Butts and son-in-law, Nathan Butts, whom she is buried beside.

Mrs Wolfley died on February 8, 1911 at age 75 after a prolonged illness. I wonder what it was - 75 was a long life back then. And I wonder if her husband was wounded during the war and what he died of. She reportedly belonged to Methodist Episcopal Church.

Snohomish resident Karyn Weingarden and retired funeral home director, Jim Shipman, who once managed the cemetery, found her final place of rest after being prompted by a phone call. Strange how his grandmother, Madelyn Dunham died less than three weeks later.

Obama's Washington campaign director, Joshua Field, confirmed the story. I wonder if this much research has been put into finding Obama's African relatives by anyone other than Axelrod - so he can keep them hidden. Barry plays up his African Americanness and yet hides his black family and dismisses his white ones. Nobody but his sister, Maya Soetero-Ng, knows the truth and she isn't talking. The pro-Obama media has been noticeably quiet about his illegal alien aunt and about the burial plans for Mrs Dunham, but have written article after article about the potential first pet.

Obama's mother Stanley "Ann" Dunham was born in Kansas and spent her high school years in Mercer Island, Washington. She moved with her parents to Oahu, Hawaii where she met Barack Obama Sr, a Kenyan in the US on an education grant and in due course Barry arrived.

For the record, Barry Sr did not come over on a JFK sponsored airlift and Jr wasn't born because his parents got together after Selma (he was already 3).

Here is the extreme irony of this. Barry had no exposure to segregation. He was born in the most diverse state (which had just joined the union) at a time when interracial marriage was legal. He had never traveled in the south until his campaign. In fact, the first time he visited his mother's birthplace was on the stump.

He is African American in that his father was from Kenya - no relation to American slavery. He was not an immigrant and did not apply for nor become an American citizen. Whereas, his mother's family held slaves and fought in the Civil War (for the North).

So, yes, he identifies himself as African American, which he is genetically, but he is biracial and has no relationship to the plight of the Oppressed Southern Negro.

Rev Jesse Jackson might well be in a castrating mood while Barry lectured the black community about "their burden", "their responsibility" and "the need for reparations".

Barry's family is the one who may owe reparations - he is not a black man who is owed reparations.

One wonders how he reconciles this when he gets up and speaks for "black America". He was given a book deal (because he was the first African American President of the Harvard Law Review) to discuss race in American. To that end, his book of mythology chronicled the racism he was allegedly exposed to as a way to give himself credibility. Who can challenge him? Some of his claims have been downplayed by those close to him at the time. (I'd find the quotes but nobody cares.) For instance, no one corroborated his claim of racial epithets repeatedly scrawled on the bathroom walls at Columbia - though it would be very easy to check since he writes the admistration painted them over.

He created his story. He admitted to it later in his re-release Preface. He admitted to making up composite characters. Once his characters are called into questions - so his own. In particular because, prior to being found out, he had stood by it's integrity.

Who is left to vet it? Why was his grandmother sequestered away? His sister is the only one who knows truth as far Barry goes. Think of the enormous burden she must carry - especially now as she grieves alone for a woman that she alone has cared for for decades. Add to that the need to answer direct or silent questions about a brother who can't fly his ready at a moment's notice private jet to honor his late grandmother. He couldn't even find it in his heart to stay one more day to celebrate his grandmother's 86th and final birthday.

How does one do this and then not mention her death until the press found out about it later in the day? Totally not mentioning it on his first campaign spot with no outward signs of grief and then once it was made known shed a few tears for his audience. I can't judge him or his method of grief - it defies logic - and if he is anything, he is logical.

It's sad really. Listen to his own words and watch him say them. He speaks about not wanting to make the same mistake twice: missing his grandmother's death like he did his mother's.

BARRY: "Most people understand that if you are not caring for your family, then you are probably not the kind of person who is going to be caring for other people."

His mother, his grandmother, his aunt, who is in the country illegally (barry first sponsored her nine years ago) and then there is his his half-brother George living in severe poverty and his grandmother scraping by. One of barrys $2000 suits could make the African blood he claims comfortable for a year. George lives on $1/month and just wants to live without using his fists and without the threat of being shot or macheted to death.

How is this ok? How can he talk about "saving Africa" when he ignores the well-being of his own African family? Barry is being deified by the world while he neglects his own blood. He lets his aunt live in the country illegally (He knew and Axelrod knew) and then when she is discovered, he said he had no idea, that he hasn't been able to talk to her and that laws must be enforced. Who believes this? He says he doesn't want to make the same mistake twice and then he is too busy to go to Hawaii to comfort his sister, who is all alone, and who all alone knows the truth. I cannot imagine being in that situation. What does she tell her children?

Barry's words, as usual--as always--are just that.

Barnicle, Rev Rivers and Mike Rogers are discussing barry's choice of Rick Warren and the impact on the LGBT community. Where is Keith Boykin hiding? How Warren is a divisive figure politically with his opposition to Prop 8 and the misinformation he promulgated. Rev Rivers thinks it's just a "pseudo-controversy". Listen to the righteous indignation in his voice and how he talks over Mike Rogers. His loud defensiveness and dismissive body language gives him away. He does not like gay folks. Why is there an extra stigma in the black "community" - especially for men? Mr Rogers sits there calmly explaining his position. Really quite remarkable. Kudos. I would have enjoyed watching him handle barama matthews.

BARNICLE: What bothers you about Barack Obama inviting Rick Warren?

ROGERS:...In picking Rick Warren, [barry] picked somebody who has basically used gays in the cultural war by attacking gay relationships in the Prop 8 battle. And I think he was a bad choice, not again because of his religious beliefs, but because of his political activity. I think that the community has a right and in fact mandate and a need to stand up and object to theat behavior.

He mentions how Saddleback's website has toned down the previous openly homophobic language -- like Wright's did and barry did after Wright, Pfleger, New Black Panther Party...

BARNICLE: We're already making progress here. Rev Rivers, isn't tolerance a larger issue here than Mr Warren's appearance at the Inauguration?

RIVERS: Oh, absolutely! I think this is basically a pseudo-controversy that's been fabricated by the sorta anti-religious left. [Then he goes a'ranting - loud and angry.]...Anyone that has actually does their homework and researches what Rick in fact does...

BARNICLE: Gene, are you saying that Mr Rogers hasn't done his homework?

RIVERS: Obviously! Listen! Point of fact--

Slaps his hand in his palm (3:30) and talks louder and louder and continues talking over Rogers. Barnicle can't host a show. Eventually he lets Rogers speak but Rivers speaks over him again.

ROGERS: ...where you are forced to come on and defend Rick Warren- the very fact that this argument is happening shows the power if the gay community...

RIVERS (4:11) laughs dismissively, shrugs and turns his head to the right. Power, yeah right...who cares. This sure reveals a lot about him. He goes beyond defending warren and barry - he shows his obvious disdain for the gay community. And he does so freely without any attempt to hide it. I've watched him a lot of times starting when he came out against wright and was pist at barry - but this is the most agitated I've seen him.

Now this is absolutely ridiculous. Barnicle has spent the last two years referring to the African American *community*. They don't listen to their guests and it's clear not even to themselves. Don't they ever get embarrassed by their lunacy?

BARNICLE: Hey, Mr Rogers, let me ask you a question. You just referred in your response to - you used the phrase *my community*. What do you mean by my community? Aren't we all part of the one community in this country? Or ought we not to be part of one community?

RIVERS: Amen!

Amen is right. How many times have we hear Rev Rivers say that white America doesn't understand the black community? That wright isn't so bad because whites just don't understand black churches. And what barry's election is doing for the black community - African American if you like. Why don't these folks listen to themselves?

Rogers then makes his point that the gay community hasn't changed - but Warren has because he was confronted.

RIVERS: Mr Rogers. Listen! Mr Rogers, if YOU are happy and feel better, president-elect Obama, Rick Warrren and myself are happy. It's a great advent experience. If you're feeling better that's a good thing. Issue resolved!

What can you say to this? He interjects himself and puts himself on par with barry and Warren.

ROGERS: I think it is an improvement. What I would like to see, and I'd like to hear you agree with it, is that Rick Warren convenes and sits down, again, behind closed doors, none of the showmanship up on the stage, and trotting everybody out. But sits down with the leadership of our community--the gay leadership--and says I'd like to build a bridge. Sit down with the Human Rights Campaign, sit down with National Gay and Lesbian Task Force Religious Roundtable and show me that your speech is really about reaching out and that it's really about uniting America. And if you can't sit down, and have those meetings with the community, then I think that really shows what you're really about.

Barnicle tries to speak and Rivers cuts him off.

RIVERS: (INDIGNANT!) No. No. No. No. Mr Rogers. Mr Rogers, listen ...

ROGERS: (Calm) Sure.

RIVERS: Uhm, it would be presumptuous of you to suggest that if Reverend Warren doesn't sit down with your particular CREW [He sits forward and shakes his body in a dismissive manner], that somehow that's an act of bad faith. That's a political trick.

Imagine the black community being referred to as a "particular crew". Never happen. Nothing is taken seriously but race.

ROGERS: If Rev Rick Warren is a so-called leader in the evangelical movement who represents the evangelical movement on a national level--

RIVERS: White evangelical.

ROGERS:...certainly it's appropriate for him to sit down with the national leaders of the gay and lesbian movement -- let's not parse the exact phrases-

BARNICLE: We've got to wrap it up there.

RIVERS: We're all happy now! [laughs]

BARNICLE: We're all happy now.

Yeah because they did their bit. What are the chances warren is going to have such a meeting? And what's the likelihood of the proobamedia making sure it happens and Rev Rivers is there?

Morning Joe

They're are talking about the campaigns - extolling the greatness of barry's campaign. He outspent and outraised Senator Clinton and they both got the same amount of votes. He out spent her in PA and she won by 10 points. He won 11 in a row and couldn't get the required amount of delegates. He never beat her. He was handed the nomination. Period.

BUCHANAN: [Sen Clinton] had one of the greatest comebacks I've ever seen in politics.

MIKA: Yeah, that was something.

BUCHANAN: April and May she's pounding that guy. [He looks at Watson] You're smiling now. You weren't smiling then.

CARLSON WATSON: Here's the truth and I hate to say this outloud. Her husband, I believe, loves her death. I think her husband wanted her to win - but I think if Bill hadn't done what he did in South Carolina, that comeback could have been complete.

And here's the greater truth. barry's camp went into South Carolina with a memo made up painting Sen Clinton as a racist. All set and ready to go before Mr Bill or anyone else said a thing. Their race-baiting strategy was going full force. He needed to get the black vote behind him and how better than to paint his opponent as a racist? How many you are aware of the memo? How about Mr Bill's actual statements and what lead up to them? What about Rev Jackson's comments that he was not offended and did not read anything into them?

I am appalled at what gay code words folks use and get away with. The bashing that occurs right out in the open. Racism is the only prejudice that has been discussed. No other prejudice is taken seriously. First sexism - whining. Ageism - punchline. Homophobia - you can't be serious. How is this a step closer to a More Perfect Union? Bigotry is bigotry. Either all are offensive or none are.

This election cycle has been a farce. barry's transcending race and partisanship? Bringing people together? Uniting the cosmos and transforming the world! Kumbaya my Lord, what are you people drinking?

Hope is an individual choice. Change! is another sunrise. Reality requires action. barry has not yet made a single unilateral decision with personal consequence. The very first time he does it will be in the White House. You ok with that? At 3am or otherwise? Do you really believe he can make a decision in 15 seconds?

Here's Pat Robertson doing what he does best while discussing Don't Ask Don't Tell with Suzanne Malveaux on CNN after he says "he's very pleased so far" with barry. So far the operative words. MALVEAUX: Are you looking forward to an Obama administration, a change?

ROBERTSON: You know, I am remarkably pleased with Obama. I had grave misgivings about him, but so help me, he's come in forcefully, intelligently. He's picked a middle-of-the-road cabinet. And so far, if he continues down this course, he has the makings of a great president. So I'm very pleased so far.

MALVEAUX: What do you think of the pick as Rick Warren, the evangelical leader, as the one to deliver the invocation at his inauguration? Obviously, a controversial pick. And there are some conservatives who believe that, perhaps, he's being used as a pawn. I want to give you this quote here by Tony Perkins of the Family Research Council. He says, "Let's hope that Rick Warren will use his channel of communication to the new president to press him for more pro-family policies, rather than simply being used by Mr. Obama to make political inroads with evangelicals." [One of the enlightened few.]

Do you think that Warren is being used by Mr. Obama?

ROBERTSON: I don't think so. I think Rick is an extraordinarily able person....He's a very dynamic individual. And I don't think he's going to be anybody's pawn. He has his own agenda and I think he'll stick to it. But after all, all he's been asked to do is give an invocation. He isn't asked to endorse Obama. He's going to stand up there on the steps of the Capitol and he's going to say, "God, please bless this country," and he will do that very well.

MALVEAUX: There are others who are upset by that pick. Obviously, there are some gay activists who have expressed concern about it because he's not for pro-gay marriage

COLIN POWELL, FORMER SECRETARY OF STATE: We definitely should reevaluate it. It's been 15 years since we put in "Don't Ask, Don't Tell," which was a policy that became a law. I didn't want it to become a law, but it became a law. Congress felt that strongly about it. But it's been 15 years and attitudes have changed.

MALVEAUX: Do you think it's time to put that policy aside and to let gays serve openly in the military?

ROBERTSON: Well, you know, I think I would leave that to the field commanders. And it seemed to be the unanimous decision of the military leadership that the question of open homosexuality in the barracks and showers and all the rest of it was not a good thing for the discipline of the troops...I'm not sure that we ought to change that. It's worked pretty well so far.

That may be - but not for women in the military. Female soldiers are more likely to be raped than killed by enemy fire in Iraq. Gay men in the shower is a blip on the radar, especially when it is consensual.

In September, Blagojevich and Mayor Daley had a curious exchange about the mass transit problem in Chicago. It gives a little insight into their relationship. The CTA has an ongoing problem with its budget and Blago blames it on mismanagement of funds and Daley blames it on the seniors ride free program that started in March.

Mayor Richard Daley said Monday that Gov. Rod Blagojevich's claim the mayor and the CTA are misleading the public about transit funding problems is "cuckoo." Daley quickly followed up his one-word response by saying he was "not getting into an argument" with Blagojevich. "He's arguing with everybody in America."

Blagojevich responded. MONIQUE GARCIA:

BLAGOJEVICH: Look, I have a great deal of respect for Mayor Daley, I don't think I'm cuckoo, but I will tell you what drives me crazy and what drives me crazy is the CTA blaming years of mismanagement on senior citizens taking the bus for free. I just think again blaming the seniors and blaming a good thing like that for the mismanagement of the CTA to lay a foundation for a fare increase is unfortunate.

And I don't consider myself cuckoo but that kind of stuff drives me crazy.

Gen Shinseki named Veterans Affairs Secretary

barry has a Sunday press conference to name 4-star Gen. Eric K. Shinseki (retired) to be the next Veterans Affairs Secretary. Why today? It is the 67th anniversary of the bombing of Pearl Harbor by the Japanese. Gen Shinseki, of Japanese-American ancestry is the highest ranking Asian American military personnel in US history.

Most notably he spoke out against Rumsfield saying hundreds of thousands of troops would be needed in Iraq to stabilize it. He retired 4 months later and was snubbed because of his outspokeness. He was vindicated when the Surge as barry finally admitted "worked beyond our wildest dreams". Wonder if barry still stands by his position that the Surge was the wrong idea...maybe he's changed it by now.

Shinseki was born in Hawaii in 1942 and is the third Asian to be named to a cabinet position. I wonder if he and his family were sent to an internment camp during WWII, and if so, what his feelings are on the anniversary.

On another note, Ahn "Joseph" Coa (LA-R) beat out indicted incumbent William Jefferson to become the first Vietnamese-American member of Congress. He immigrated to the US from Vietnam in 1975 and although an immigration attorney for "boat people" he has no political experience. Louisiana has a large population of Vietnamese-Americans, especially New Orleans, who have fought hard to rebuild after Katrina. Coa's dad spent seven years in an NVA prison camp and is confined to a wheelchair. I wonder what went through his mind listening to his son make his victory speech. As barry says, nowhere else in the world would this story be possible.

When are you going to stop trying to make everything barry does the -est ever? Yes. He raised the most amount of money ever but he did so because he lied about taking public finance. Though it's just a matter of time before all of his illegal foreign donations are exposed. And with all that money he got the same amount of votes as Sen Clinton - one can extrapolate what would have happened had they been on an equal financial footing. As it was, he outspent Sen Clinton by as much as 5-1 and per vote barry outspent McCain by $4.

Yes. His popular vote margin of victory was the largest for a non-incumbent presidential candidate but not the largest ever. Nor was his popular vote percentage. There wasn't the massive turnout you predicted. People were not voting in "record numbers". Record amount of blacks did not show up to vote. Only 2% more came out to vote for the first black president ever and the media has not done a story on what that says about Black America.

Yes. He used the internet in a novel way compared to the last election for a simple reason: Youtube and Facebook hadn't been invented yet. And Google is based in Chicago, which made it easy for Googleman to get involved.

Yes. He is picking his Cabinet quicker than anyone. It's because no president has ever had such problems facing him. In particular, the economy that can't wait another two months and now with India neither can national security and foreign diplomacy.

And yes. He has had the largest media assist in campaign history. That no longer has to be proven - by us or anyone else. But the constant comparison to previous presidents absolutely has to stop. barry has done absolutely nothing except name part of his Cabinet that cannot even make an impact until after he is inaugurated. So can you please please please stop the lovefest? Or at least wait until he's done something to deserve it?

Know that in reference to “parading our pride” only 2% more black folks came out to vote for the first black president and close to 8 million (1/3 of all eligible black voters) couldn't be bothered to register to vote. It was the white and Hispanic vote - Senator Clinton's demographic - that gave barry the win. And as far as the "Bradley Effect" that does not exist? More people voted for barry than polled.

There's been an e-mail going around advising black folks on unacceptable behavior now that Obama has won. We at The Root thought we'd add a few tips of our own.

1. No Negro spirituals or quotes from Dr. King. John Hope Franklin can get away with this. The rest of us cannot.

2. Don't go up to every "redneck-y" looking person and gloat. "It hurts don't it? It burrrrnnss!" Dave Chappelle warned us about parading our pride too much.

3. Don't corner your white coworkers to give them a tutorial on black culture just because "the president is black and it's 'bout time y'all learn!"

4. Don't go to your local DMV, post office or other government office and try to jump the line, talkin' 'bout, "Barack's got my back."

5. Do not promise to name your first child after Barack Obama. We've come far, but Barack Obama Jackson does not have as much of a ring to it as you think.

Black people aren't the only ones worried about embarrassing themselves now that Obama is president-elect. Here are a few pointers for white people.

1. Don't personally congratulate all your black friends.
Black people are not a sports team, and Obama did not win the Super Bowl.

2. Don't declare that you "never thought you'd see the day."
You never thought you'd see the day?

3. Don't start crossing the street in order to walk next to a black person.
President Obama is glad you support racial reconciliation, but he takes a hard line against jaywalking.

4. Don't name drop "Dr. King."
If you absolutely must make some comment about how this is a victory for civil rights, pick a marginally less obvious figurehead.

5. Don't use the phrase "white people" in any way that suggests it doesn't include you.

A quick comment on the Obama's early trip to the White House. No matter what happens with the birth certificate, citizenship, widespread voter registration and caucus fraud, illegal and foreign donations and/or nefarious associations and family members - barry will be inaugurated. If it is proven that he surrendered his citizenship an amendment or some such will ensure he remains eligible. It was so decreed when he entered the race - perhaps even as far back as 2004. Edwards to dilute the vote and the DNC's selection followed by ridiculous accusations of racism. And then there's the pro-Obama media propaganda.

The point is that this early display of transfer of power in front of the world cements barry's inauguration. Anything less would cause massive uproar. I wonder what it feels like to be Senator Clinton - especially after what she made out to be by the Candidate of Change!

He has still not publicly apologized or addressed the black community on "The Clinton's" behalf - but he had no problem using them to campaign for him. He would not be where he is if he wasn't toughened up by Sen Clinton and had the long primary for people to see he could actually become a functioning politician - if only by guise.
