A interesting discussion of the guidelines of fertility treatment. At present, in the US, the guidelines are voluntary - relying on the mother’s judgment and sanity and the doctor’s morality and commitment to his Oath: First Do No Harm. As is clear, neither worked in Nadya’s case.
Europe has strict guidelines that must be adhered to but they also cover the cost of the IVF. In the US, most insurance companies do not cover it so the financial pressure for results is greater, thus more embryos are implanted. Nadya’s doctor, however, was interested in boosting his stats, which is why he had Nadya and the other 49-50 y/o uninsured woman with quadruplets.
I would really like to know on what criteria Nadya declared “infertile”? Of course, that is confidential. But with the 100% results she had - it makes one wonder if she had any fertility problems to start. She never had a “tumor” like she told the grandmother or “ovarian cancer” like she told the boyfriend sperm donor, whom she says is not the father.
I think there should at least be proof of insurance for the child - otherwise it’s premeditated welfare fraud. Getting pregnant the natural way is always an unknown. IVF and implantation is 100% voluntary and 100% intentional. A woman does not have the means to pay for her child’s delivery - they should not be allowed to be impregnated. Period.

He says the risk to multiples stems from the shortened gestation age. Subtract about a month for each additional fetus. Twins - 8 months, triplets 7 months, quads 6 months. It’s why there are no other living octuplets and why some of the octuplets will be neurogically and perhaps physically impaired.
It’s the pre-term labor that causes the risk to the fetus. And multiples increase the risks to the mother of developing diabetes, high blood pressure, stroke and eclampsia.
Nadya’s doctor - he can’t comment on Nadya’s case.
Any clinical reason to implant that many embryos in any woman?
In his opinion, no.
There’s the answer on Nadya’s doctor, who was being investigated but I don’t know if he still is or i not what the ruling was. If interestd you can look him up on California Medical Licensing Board website to see if he has been sanctioned.
