WH Press Briefing

Robert Gibbs is asked a routine question – about barry’s date night – that he is not prepared for so he responds as usual with sarcasm. He really is a very small, insecure person. I wonder how his children are going to feel watching dad make fun of folks as a defense while working for the highest Office in the land. And the press as usual don’t press him any further. They’re all spineless castratos – including Tapper, Henry, Martin and “Chip”. “April” and “Battleaxe Helen” are the only two willing to take him on.

Look at the way he phrases it. Why should the press allow the press secretary to decide whether to answer something? As long as they don’t make him – why would he?

MR GIBBS: Jonathan.

Q Robert, are you going to tell us how much the President and the First Lady’s date night cost on Saturday night, and if not, why not?

MR. GIBBS: Well, Jonathan, uh-uh-uh I think as uh-uh, as-as uh, uhm, you know, I-I-I spokespeople have spoken to this over the weekend that the President uh,uh would — had-had he or could he, based on the Secret Service, he would have taken the shuttle. Uhm, but uhm, I would say that the costs are proportionate with, uh, travel for Presidents. And I would encourage you, uh, to look up previous coverage on travel costs, uh, because they’re analogous.

Q But is there any President or a President and First Lady who have taken an out-of-town date night like this, not connected to an official or even a political — previously planned event?

MR. GIBBS: You’ve-you’ve got probably, uh, more researchers than I do.

Fine — if he wants to go with the it’s no different than other presidents. Problem is barry said he was going to bring Change! and that he was going to be different than the other presidents. And one of the promises was to cut down on “wasteful government spending”. One of those researchers should add up the cost of his adoration tours to swing states and fundraisers and the flyover and the NYC date. They most definitely would not be commenserate with any other president’s travel in the first 5 months. Not even close. And when barry was in the senate his CODELs cost the most out of any senator.

The topper? Mayor Bloomberg’s reaction, which he said in all seriousness.

How weird is this. The Obama file website has been picked up by the Library of Congress. The press doesn't believe anything they have to say but the Library of Congress does? Do they have their own factchecker? And what exactly are the crises they're referring to? Constitutional? Makes you wonder if it's just barry's people trying to get legal access to the folks who run it. Hope they have a back up site somewhere.

Indonesian barry doppelganger?

Here's another barry look-a-like. Ilham Anas, 34, is a photographer from West Java, Indonesia. Reggie Brown is from Chicago and is a little too young and innocent looking. Difference - the eyebrows and square forehead.

ANAS: I'm actually a shy person. I don't like being put in the spotlight. But I see my resemblance to Obama as a blessing. I used to look at the mirror and I had a negative perception of myself. I will take all the opportunities that come my way, as long as they don't violate ethical codes and my personal values.

So far that has included:

An appearance on Indonesia's premier talk show Bukan Empat Mata (Not Four Eyes) to coincide with Obama's inauguration in Washington.

A Filipino drug company has cast Mr Anas in a commercial showing him dressed as Obama visiting the Philippines.

And he has received marketing offers from Indonesian and South Korean companies.

When asked if he would like to be a body double for barry, he replied: "I don't want to get shot".

Great pix taken by STEVE JURVETSON, which shows what great seats Capt Sullenberger & Co-pilot Jeff Skiles had at the Inauguration. Look at the blue stairs. At the bottom of the white railing is a photographer. To his/her left are Skiles and Sullenberger and Donna Dent. To the photographer's right is Arnold Schwartzenegger and down the row and up one is Magic Johnson.

In the row behind Skiles/Sullenberger is Chicago's Mayor Daley (hat), Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan (poncho), Illinois State Treasurer Alexi Giannoulias (orange scarf). I don't know who the green Sox cap wearing guy is. Only a soxfan would be so classless. Illinois Secretary of State, Jesse White, who wouldn't sign Sen Burris' appointment form, is three rows up behind Mrs Obama. (Her mouth looks very strange.) Chelsea Clinton is standing in the top row directly over barry's head. I think Donna Brazile is two rows down from her hidden behind her camera.

It's not a barry Rezko "boneheaded mistake" this time it's an "innocent mistake". This is absolutely insane. The man who is going to be head of the Treasury, which also means head of the IRS has been audited by them and still didn't come clean until after he was nominated. I can see the first time but after the audit? Yes. These are tough times. But if a guy can't pay his own taxes - or ok made a honest mistake over the last decade and didn't realize it - how is he going to head up the IRS? He didn't know he had to pay taxes? What in the hell type of financial wizard is he?

And what kind of innocent mistake was the lapsed legal immigration status of his housekeeper?

What good was barry's whatever page questionnaire?

What is it going to take folks?

REPORTER: Are you considered that Timothy Geithner's taxes mishap will affect his chance of confirmation?

BARRY: No, Tim Geithner, when I nominated him, was rightly lauded by people from both sides of the aisle, from the market, from labor, as somebody who is uniquely qualified to deal with - as what Lindsay described properly as - the biggest crisis that we've had since the Depression. Ya know, look, is this an embarrassment uh-uh for him - yes. He said so himself. But it was an innocent mistake. It is a mistake that is commonly made for people who are working internationally or for international institutions. It has been corrected. He paid the penalties. And, as I've said before, if my criteria whether it was for cabinet secretary, or vice presidents, or presidents, or reporters was that if you've never made a mistake in your life - none of us would be employed. So, my eh-eh-eh expectation is that he will be confirmed. And my expectation is that he is going to do an outstanding job on part-on part - on behalf of the American people.
