yo, barry, you talked the trash, now back it up, and bowl

March 22, 200

barry compared his pathetic able-bodied, able-minded bowling skills to the Special Olympics - assuming Special Olympians automatically must suck because they are intellectually challenged. See link below to watch him say it laugh about it.

Not only is barry ignorant - he’s ignorant. Bowling is a popular sport among Special Olympians and is ranked in the top 5. And at the top of the heap is 35 y/o Kolan McConiughey from Ann Arbor Michigan who has bowled 5 perfect games (just since 2005), three in competition, has had an 800 series and who carries a whopping 212 average. That’s some skill - for any body, any mind or combination thereof.

From AP’S COREY WILLIAMS:

With an IQ less than half of the 100 considered average, [Kolan] McConiughey lives with his foster mother and has held the same job at a grocery store for 16 years. He greets customers, sweeps floors and maintains the store’s break room.

His foster mom, Jan Pardy:

He can’t read much, can’t do math, can’t do bill-paying. Kolan faces all these challenges, but he has an area of genius, and his genius is bowling.

What does Kolan think about barry?

He bowled a 129. I bowl a 300. I could beat that score easily.

Gotta love it. His advice:

I’d tell him to get a new bowling ball, new shoes and bring him down to the lane. Keep his body straight, his arm straight and keep his steps straight. He has to practice every single day.

And what does President of the Special Olympics in Michigan, Lois Arnold, think?

It would be an honor for him [Kolan] to bowl with the president of the United States.

Yes. It would. And it has to happen. In the White House bowling alley with the cameras blazing - Live. He has time for the NCAA brackets - he has time to promote the Special Olympics and get spanked doing so.

Check out the competitors.

Bowling ranked in top 5 Special Olympics sports, Kolan McConiughey

March 21, 2009

Here’s some perspective from the Special Olympics website [emphasis added]:

Bowling is one of the five most popular sports in the Special Olympics movement, with almost 240,000 athletes engaged in rigorous year-round training and competition around the world. Special Olympics athletes have a wide range of abilities, and focus on doing their best and improving their skills. Many Special Olympics athletes are excellent bowlers.

In fact, in December 2008, Special Olympics Michigan athlete Kolan McConiughey bowled a perfect 300 game, the third time he has done so in competition. [5 times overall]

Special Olympics San Marino athlete Gianvito Campo averaged 165 for his three-game series in winning a gold medal at the 2007 Special Olympics World Summer Games in Shanghai, China.

From the United States Bowling Congress:

Q. What are the odds of rolling a 300 game?

A. There is no scientific way to determine this. The unscientific method, however, involves the number of games bowled and number of sanctioned 300 earned in a bowling season. It is estimated league bowlers roll an average of 100 games per season (90 league, 10 tournament). With about four million sanctioned league bowlers rolling about 400 million games and more than 35,000 perfect games rolled each year, the odds are about one 300 for approximately every 11,500 games.

Since women and youth roll far fewer 300s than men, their odds are much greater.

I think this puts into context the ignorance of barry’s words.

Special Olympian Kolan McConiughey, 35, started bowling when he was was 8 or 9 and has bowled 3 perfect games in competition and 5 perfect games since 2005. The odds have to be astronomical.

I think Kolan should take on barry as part of a fundraiser right there in the White House. – he does too.

McConiughey: He [Obama] bowled a 129. I bowl a 300. I could beat that score easily.
