Why would Bill Ayers be going to Canada the night before barry's inauguration?
To speak at a University with a very long name: Centre for Urban Schooling at University of Toronto's Ontario Institute for Studies in Education. If he's going up there on the 19th was he just going to come back?
Toronto Star's DEBRA BLACK:
AYERS: I don't know why I was turned back. I got off the plane like everyone else and I was asked to come over to the other side. The border guards reviewed some stuff and said I wasn't going to be allowed into Canada. To me it seems quite bureaucratic and not at all interesting ... If it were me I would have let me in. I couldn't possibly be a threat to Canada.
The man who was picking him up, Jeffrey Kugler, executive director of the Centre for Urban Schooling:
It's kind of ironic the day before Barack Obama is going to become president this is what the Canadian border security has done. It seems ridiculous that one university can't have a professor from another university to come and give a lecture on an important educational topic.
The entire four or five hours he was not allowed to have representation at all. To me this is an issue of academic freedom. He could not be a threat to anyone ever. Anyone who knows anything about this man – he's a distinguished scholar at the University of Illinois and he has been involved in education reform over the past 15 years. To imagine in any way he was a threat to Canada is really absurd.
Why didn't he call and make sure Ayers would be allowed in? It's not like the world doesn't know who he is and it's not like Bush doesn't have friends he could call.
But the real question is: why did Ayers go there the night before the Inauguration? Why would he want to be out of the country when his buddy is becoming president? It defies reality.
Here's a few posts (below) if you still think Ayers was "just a guy in the neighborhood". barry ABC debate:
This is a guy who lives in my neighborhood, who is a professor of English in Chicago, who I know, and who I have not received some official endorsement from.
He hosted barry's political coming out "coffee" and donated $200 to his campaign.
He is not someone I exchange ideas (with) on a regular basis.
He's always got that obamanator qualifier. One would think that in 1995 when they served on the Annenberg board they must have shared a few views because they had to make decisions together. And one would also think that just a guy in the neighborhood -- who lives a couple of blocks away -- wouldn't be hold a political coming out party and donating money if he didn't know barry's views.
Axelrod first said they knew each other because their kids go to school with together--ayers' kids being adults--which was later amended to they went to the same schools. His words are clearly present tense. BEN SMITH:
AXELROD: Bill Ayers lives in his neighborhood. Their kids attend the same school. They're certainly friendly, they know each other, as anyone whose kids go to school together.
Ayers' also wrote a new afterword to his reprinted book characterizing their relationship as "neighbors and family friends". Friends...pals...neighbors...board members...fellow teachers...campaign fundraiser host...fellow speaker at conferences...
I know none of this matters and I really don't care what they did together. I am shocked people bought the explanation....and Wright...and Rezko...and Blagojevich...whoever is next. Especially from a man touting his superior judgment.
Ayers' wife and Weather Underground firebomb John Murtaugh's house (who was 9 at the time like barry was 8)
Weather Underground's list of accomplishments for which Ayers and his FBI's Most Wanted List wife Bernadette Dohrn did not spend one day in prison.
Video testimony of an FBI agent who infiltrated the Weather Underground. He describes their plans of "reeducating" and "eliminating" diehard capitalists. Beyond disturbing.
Here's ayers' on his hypocritical capitalist book tour talking to barama matthews.
(1-21-09) ayers and dohrn on NBC 5 - no mention of Canada.
