Mrs Obama is angry. She doesn't want her children exploited. This in reference to the new Ty dolls. Ty, Inc of Westmont is known for its of Beanie Babies. It seems that their photo spreads and TV appearances before they made it to the White House were not considered by her to be exploitation. Is it because she won't be obtaining any of the $9.99 the dolls sell for? How much did the original Teddy Roosevelt teddy bear go for? They at least asked Roosevelt if they could use the name. Ty said they thought the names were lovely: "Marvelous Malia" and "Sweet Sasha" and that they weren't modelled after the Obama girls. They are the same as all the other Ty Girlz except for the fact that they are the only darkly pigmented dolls in the 30 doll collection and their names happen to be familiar.
Ty Senior Vice President of Sales Tania Lundeen:
Information concerning the development of our products and how we come up with names, how we select them, how we trademark -- that's considered as proprietary. Sasha and Malia are beautiful names that worked very well with the dolls we were making.
It would not be fair to say they are exact replications of these girls. They are not.
I'll say. They have breasts. First lady Michelle Obama's press secretary, Katie McCormick Lelyveld:
We feel it is inappropriate to use young private citizens for marketing purposes.
Dad has no such inhibitions nor does mom. Is she getting any of the action with J. Crew?
