12 y/o boy + 15 y/o girl = 7lb 3oz baby

Alfie's mum speaks out
Alfie's dad remind you of anyone?
What punishment should Alfie & Chantelle's parents face?
The law has finally stepped in with Alfie

This is so tragically sad I am not even going to comment.

This is the actual biological father of the child - not the brother. How is this not rape? She is 15 y/o and he is 13 y/o - 12 when he got her pregnant. They had "one night" of sex. She's twice his size. He is only 48 inches tall and looks like he weighs at most 80 lbs. Although not specified - the baby is probably at least 19 inches long.

Where are these two having sex? And why? Where in the goddam hell are the parents? I thought that selfish woman in California's mother was irresponsible this is an abomination of the highest order.

Little family ... Alfie, Chantelle and baby Maisie

Alfie Patten 13, Chantelle Steadman, 15, with 4 day old Maisie Roxanne, 7lbs 3 oz

The Sun's LUCY HAGAN:

Chantelle and Maisie will be living at home with her mom, Penny, 39, jobless father Steve, 43, and five brothers and sisters in a rented house. They are all on welfare.

CHANTELLE after 5 hours of labor: I’m tired after the birth. I was nervous after going into labour but otherwise I was quite excited.

We didn't think we would need help from our parents.

You don't really think about that when you find out you are pregnant. You just think your parents will kill you.

We know we made a mistake but I wouldn't change it now.

We will be good loving parents.

I have started a church course and I am going to do work experience helping other young mums.

I'll be a great mum and Alfie will be a great dad.

The baby father ... Alfie Patten with little Maisie

Alfie, lives on an estate (I'm guessing this means his family has money) with his mother Nicola (43), but sleeps over at Chantelle's house. That means 9 people in one house. Alfie's father is separated from his mother and has sired nine children. How is this a surprise?

HIS DAD DENNIS (45): Everyone is telling him things and it's going round in his head. It hasn't really dawned on him. He hasn't got a clue of what the baby means and can't explain how he feels. All he knows is mum and dad will help.

When I spoke to him he started crying. He said it was the first time he'd had sex, that he didn't know what he was doing and of the complications that could come. I will talk to him again and it will be the birds and the bees talk. Some may say it's too late but he needs to understand so there is not another baby.

What can you possibly say to that? Nine children and he hasn't spoken to his son about sex. Where were these children having sex? And certainly the girl had some sort of clue. She has five siblings.

Devoted ... Alfie holds and cuddles Maisie

ALFIE: When my mum found out, I thought I was going to get in trouble. We wanted to have the baby but were worried how people would react.

I didn't know what it would be like to be a dad

I thought it would be good to have a baby.

How much do diapers cost?

I don't know. I think it's a lot. I didn't think about how we would afford it. I don't really get pocket money. My dad sometimes gives me £10.

I will be good, though, and care for it.

No comments in the article by his mother.

Caring ... Alfie bottle feeds his little daughter

What does this child's face say to you?

FYI from the Times Online's SAM LISTER:

The legal age for heterosexual or homosexual sex in England, Wales and Scotland is 16. In Northern Ireland teenagers must be 17 before they can have intercourse legally.

— If two under-age teenagers have sex it is illegal but the law is not widely enforced and usually the Crown stops proceedings on the grounds of public interest.

— Girls can lawfully have sex at 16 but there are extra rules applying to those under 13. Sex with a girl below the age of 13 is punishable under a "statutory rape" charge with a maximum sentence of life because girls of that age are not deemed mature enough to consent.

— If parents are aware of their under-age children having sex, they could theoretically risk prosecution for aiding and abetting unlawful intercourse.

Police and Social Services are aware and "they will support the family as it grows." What does that mean? And what do you think should happen to the two sets of grandparents?

Video audio His voice hasn't even changed.

REPORTER: Do you think you are too young to have a baby?

ALFIE: I am.

REPORTER: What are you going to do financially?

ALFIE: What's financially?
