The fatal crash of a helicopter on Jan 4th in Morgan City, Louisiana, that killed eight of the nine people aboard is now thought to be a result of a bird strike according to the NTSB. Initial visual evidence showed no obvious evidence of a bird strike but DNA testing from the windscreen tested positive for hawk DNA. it was found in the area that showed concentric ring fractures consistent with a bird strike. They also found on reexamination "small feather parts in the folds of the right-side engine inlet filter". They are still investigating other possible causes. "Snarge" is the term for bird bit remains.

Canada geese were found to be the definitive cause of the simultaneous dual engine failure of US AIRWAYS Flight 1549 piloted by Captain Sullenberger and First Officer Jeff Skiles and womaned by Flight Attendants Donna Dent, Doreen Welsh and Sheila Dail.
