Former First Lady Barbara Bush underwent open heart surgery today. She had been experiencing shortness of breath and was found to have a calcified aortic valve - not unusual for an 83 y/o - which was replaced with a “biologic” valve. It’s usually a pig valve. Surgery went well and she is expected to remain in the hospital for 7-10 days. Curious is why they didn’t find it when they operated on her perforated ulcer in November.
