Updated: Susan Boyle posts (5-3)
During Susan Boyle’s Britain’s Got Talent audition she was asked dismissively by Cowell why she was there (wasting his time).
COWELL: How old are you, Susan?
SUSAN BOYLE: I am 47. And that’s just one side of me.
COWELL: OK. What’s the dream?
COWELL: [Like get on with it] Ok, what’s the dream?
BOYLE: [looks for a moment like she is going to cry] I’m trying to be a professional singer.
COWELL: [cheeky] And why hasn’t it worked out so far, Susan?
BOYLE: I’ve never been given the chance before - but here’s hoping it will change!
COWELL: And who would you like to be as successful as?
BOYLE: Elaine Paige.
(4-23) Larry King speaks with Elaine Paige about Ms Boyle’s comments. It’s clear Ms Paige was honored by it and wants to have Ms Boyle on her radio show. She is also interested in doing a duet and basically tells Simon Cowell to give her a call.
How great a moment would that be for Ms Boyle?
And how pleased is Paige that tens of millions of people now know who she is because of Ms Boyle?

Upon hearing Ms Boyle’s comments:
ELAINE PAIGE: I was honored and certainly flattered. I think Susan is a role model…
She’s got a beautifully clear, natural voice, and I was blown away by her performance, I have to say, like everybody else.
Hearing her sing with such freedom - it was an outstanding performance. And her joy afterward…
It is not an easy song to sing. She really did it brilliantly. She never faltered.
Her proposal, which must’ve left Ms Boyle gobsmacked:
Susan, if you get to see this at all, you want to sing together? Let’s!

(4-24) Chris Cuomo speaks with Paige on GMA.
ELAINE PAIGE: She just has the most lovely natural voice, Very open in her performance….She’s a breath of fresh air that came out of the blue and reached out to everybody and gave us all something to smile about.
How do you feel that without question she was Ms Boyle’s inspiration?
I am very flattered.
And to be an inspiration when you are completely unaware of it and then to discover in this way is a big surprise and well, it’s just very flattering.
Do you hear a bit of yourself in her voice?
I have to admit I can hear a similarity - most definitely. It’s slight uncanny and a bit spooky even. Yes I can hear it.
Sing a duet?
Certainly, if that’s something Susan would like to do. I would be more than happy. It would be my great pleasure to sing with her.
Simon Cowell the limiting factor.

If you’ve never head Elaine Page, here she is singing “Memory” made famous in the musical “Cats”, which she was the first to sing.
