Illinois House approves measure to allow same-sex civil unions

Illinois House committee advanced a measure that at would allow same-sex civil unions for same-sex couples.

• Couples would have the same basic rights as married couples
• May not have enough support to get through the House
• Would need Senate and Governor approval
• Approved earlier – procedural problem
• Adjournment Sunday
• If passed Illinois would be 6th state to approve civil unions
