Susan Boyle: “Memory” (BGT’s live semi-finals)

May 25, 2009

Interview with Susan Boyle prior to the show. She didn’t expect to get past her audition and says she’ll be very nervous. Can’t blame her with the entire world watching, having heard her flawless rendition of I Dreamed a Dream. No way she could live up to that. That was a once in a lifetime performance because of the meaning of the song and because she had waited 25 years for that moment. She didn’t seem emotionally connected to Memory until the end. Strange only her niece went out of her large family.

A chat with Susan

How are you preparing for the BGT finals? Can you give us any hints about your performance?

I’m preparing by practising my song all the time – as for what I am going to wear and what I’m going to sing that will be a surprise until the night.

Are you having a dramatic transformation?

No not really I’ve got a nice outfit to wear that I’m really happy with but I just want people to see me for who I am and do my best at singing the song, that’s what I am focusing on.

Who do you think will be your biggest competition?

They are all so good and it’s an open competition and they are all good on their own merit. I’ve been watching everyone rehearse and there are some brilliant acts and everyone is so good, so it’s all down to the public to decide.

Did you ever think you would get this far?

No never! I never even thought I’d get past the judges. I can’t believe I am in the semi finals and I’ve been overwhelmed by the public reaction to my first audition.

How will you feel if you get through on Sunday night?

Bloody fantastic! But I am not thinking that far ahead I am just concentrating on my performance.

What about the number of hits on You Tube and how America has taken you to their hearts?

Until six weeks ago the “tube” I knew of was a tube of smarties!

smarties

It has just been unbelievable and very touching. So that has just been amazing, and the messages of support from all over the world

Will you be nervous before you had to go onstage?

Very nervous, I don’t really know what to expect but I am just going to go out there and do my best again and hopefully the audience and the judges will like my performance.

Will your family and friends be there to support you?

Yes my niece is coming down along with my close friends who have been a great support.

Any messages for your fans?

I’d like to thank them for all the support they have shown me, especially everyone back at home in Bathgate.
